forcing my wastegate open...any negative effects?
I'm planning on disconnecting my actuator arm to the wastegate lever/door. and putting a small spring to make the wastegate fully open. will this damage/ruin anything (engine, turbo components?)? Will this give me zero boost?
This is for a greddy 15g turbo kit out of the box

Re: forcing my wastegate open...any negative effects? (nd8ch)
there's a simple answer to that . . . NO BOOST. If you leave the waistegate open then it can't build any pressure up inside . . . the turbine will spin, but you will not make any boost at all.

I want to bypass my turbo for autox....ive done it with boost and without boost, and i do the same if not better with na, even with less HP. I dont have an intercooler yet (smic on the way) and the its been really hot out in the autox field too.

Hmmm, well, I'm fairly sure you won't hurt anything.
I am thinking that setting your BC to zero would do effectively the same thing. Alot easier too. Especially if that is how your BC is connceted. As in, plumed to a vaccum hose at the WG so the WG is opened once the reference pressure is reached.

nope. a boost controller cannot lower boost levels below the spring setting. the actuator/wastegate spring dictates minimum boost pressure. BC's only adjust above this threshold.

The exhaust gases will just bypass the turbo and out the exhaust so the turbo will not spool and u will not get any boost thats all. I can't see any harm in it at all.
