fluttering noise from greddy turbo kit?
i recently installed a greddy kit on my 95 honda civic ex sohc and i dont really know that much about turbos but i'm learning. i'm currently running the stock boost of 5.5. when i let the turbo spool up 3k rpms+ and let off the throttle i hear this fluterring noise. sounds kool but ive read thats called compresser surge? is that bad for my turbo at 5.5 psi? if it helps, i have no bov and no intercooler just the base greddy 15g kit. thanks in advance

I AGREE DEFINTELY GET A BOV. NOT HAVING PUTS ADDITIONAL STRESS ON THE TURBO . YOUR PROBABLY HEARING THAT NOISE BECAUSE THAT EXCESS PRESSURE REALLY HAS NOWHERE TO GO .

Re: (Dunc)
yeah, you need a blow off valve. you are encountering a compressor surge like you said which is caused by the pressure build up in the charge pipes and when you let off the gas and the throttle plate closes the pressure has no where to go except back to the turbo which is really hard on it and bad for the turbo. so if you want it to last. invest in a bov.

Just sold my HKS Super Blow Off Valve to a H-T member..
It's just how you like it..it's just a surge of air and no whistle...there should be some for sale on ebay. The reason I sold it because it was too quite.

Then I'd get a DSM blow off valve for cheap. we put one on my friends d16 and it sounds exactly like you describe. The price is right too.

This thing vents the air around the center circle cap that's why it's just a gust of air sound and no "pssshhh"..noise...

Re: (H-T)
The fluttering noise that you described that is happening after 3k and letting off the gas is your internal wastegate on the turbo.
As stated you will need a bov, but I ran my greddy kit for a while with out it about a month. The boost is very low and as long as you get one shortly it will not cause any harmful damage. I have the Turbo XS type S BOV(smallest turbo xs makes) very quite and sounds like a pshhhh sound.

i agree with him! it shouldnt hurt it too bad if at all as long as your now going full boost on it and you get a blowoff valve in the near future. and get an intercooler right after that cuz you will need that too so start saving some more money. but good luck with your boost project!
