Default Fitting turbo farther away from manifold bad?

I was thinking of welding a pipe extention from the exhaust mani to turbo that would sit the turbo where the battery is and move the battery like on some peoples setup. This is going into a 89 civic hatch. Would this be a problem? Would it take longer to build boost? The reason for this is I am running out of room and I want to fit an intercooler in the engine bay, but still have it in the air flow and also keep the ac in too.

I hope I was descriptive enough.

I think by doing this you will lose too much heat before it reaches the turbo. I would find another way to fit an intercooler in.
