Default Finally got the GSR tuned on Hondata (VTC drama at it's best!)

Well it was an interesting day if nothing esle, but first let me get to the meat n' potatoes you wanna see.

The Setup:
Stock B18C1
Hondata S200B
Revhard manifold
Garrett T04E compressor (.60 A/R, 60-trim) w/ Turbonetics T3 turbine (.63 A/R)
TiAL 35mm wastegate
Revhard 2.5" DP
Revhard/Spearco FMIC
Apex'i N1 catback (2.38")

Best run of the day done at 5.5-6psi (running off the wastegate)-

244.1whp / 168.9wtq

The A/F was 12.1-12.2 entering boost and 11.6 from about 5000rpm through 8500rpm, timing was 18* BTDC on the top side.

So what do you guys think? Not bad for 6psi eh? Makes you wonder what a 3"DP and 3" catback will free up.. As for why I don't have the printout or my video camera here to show you... why you ask? Well the car had to sleep over SFP tonight, and here's why.

Just after wrapping up the tune, Frank sends me on a test drive to ensure satisfaction before I came back to wrap it up. As me and FstBlkGti are about to leave, the car had a mysetrious sputter where the revs dropped for a moment, but came right back up to normal. We dismiss it as a fluke and proceed on the drive. I open her up a couple times briefley... ooooooohh what a feeling!! So smooth, so linear, hell I was looking for an "SRT" badge for a moment Anyways, just as we come back, park the car and proceed to get out and have a few last words with Frank, the car statrs to sputter.. and sputter.. worse and worse till she finallu shuts off. Frank checks the Hondata box and it's showing a lack of communication with the ECU.

We reset the ECU and check any connections, restart the car.. no dice she still won't idle. After fiddling with it a bit more, the interface box finally decides to talk with the ECU again but she's still sputtering. A quick pull of the plugs confirms that they nice and wasted after the car tried idling 460's on it's own for a bit. Change the plugs and the car is idling great again............... for about 30 seconds before the interface box again has a fit and refuses to talk to the ECU

By this time Frank has already asked me twice if I was sure my injectors were high impedence to which I replied yes seeing as how I ever confirmed with my multi-meter that they were pulling the same resistance as my GSR injectors were. None the less, the interface box is very unhappy, and seeing as how this situation 'appeared' to be an injector one, Frank decides to check the injectors individually with a multi-meter. on me! Turns out of the 4 460cc injectors I was sold, 2 were from an 87+ which are indeed high impedence, but the other 2 must have been pulled from a pre-87 as they were registering only 2-3ohms!! [homer]DOOOOOOOOO'H!!![/homer]

*Sigh*, oh well, looks like I finally found out why I couldn't get these RX7 injectors to idle right on the GSR even though I managed to get the DSM's idling just fine. Obviously, the Hondata is much more sensitive to the difference in voltage draw and shut down when the drivers got nice and hot leading to the sputter and eventual death as the car was trying to idle 460's with no help!

Luckily, the shop right next to SFP is a rotary based performance shop to Frank is going to see if he can scrounge up some hi-impedence 460's tomorrow for me and i'm set! BTW, SFP closes at 6pm, Frank, Scott and a few of the guys stayed with me through 8:30pm hunting for the problem!! For anything bad I ever experienced at SFP, that MORE than makes up for it and them some Hopeully tomorrow I'll have the GSR back and once I replace the broken motor mounts and patch up a couple freaky exahust leaks, it back on the dyno for 10psi

Hondata

Frank, Scott and the rest of the SFP guys

FstBlkGti for killing 7 hours with me, 6 of which were utter boredom

its nice to read story's like this when shop owners take extra time out to help the customer, even if its past normal business hours.

Awesome

Ehh well.. not really faulty, just not what I thought they were. Had I known I could've been running a pair of those $2 Radio Shack resistors inline with those 2 injectors and everything would've been dandy

The really odd thing is.. for over 2 months I ran those injectors on the stock ECU with no problems, Frank also ran it on the dyno without a problem, it wasn't untill he was done that the injector drivers on the P28 fried and the ECU quit

I am running at 6.5psi and it hits full boost at 3,900-4,000 rpm's. I also have a shitty *** exhaust with a stock cat. Can't wait to get a Thermal 3" on mine!

That's actually another thing, consideing the size of my DP and catback, the fact that I spool when I do is pretty amazing, and the output for that matter!
