Default Finally finished my first junkyard turbo...lots of pics.

I'd first like to thank H-T members for all their help with my stoopid problems that I went through.

This was my first turbo installation ever. But overall I think I must have installed this one setup at least 20 times....bolt everything up, oil feed leaks, remove everything, get burned in the process, fix...repeat til you're about to go crazy.

I've got a '99 Integra GS with a stock engine. I've got a GReddy EVO cat back exhaust & Carsound High-Flow Catalytic Converter. Everything else is stock.

Just some info on my turbo setup:
G1 DSM TDO5H-14B turbo - $100
G1 DSM charge pipes - $10
G1 DSM BOV - $30
G1 DSM Sidemout Intercooler - $75
G1 DSM Oil Return flanges - $10
Dropshop B18B -> 14B Manifold - $250
Custom 2" -> 2 1/2" Downpipe - $230
2G DSM 450cc Injectors - $20
DSM injector clips - free
filetofit MAP Limiter - $21
Resistor Box - $2
Oil Feed line - $20
Autometer Boost Guage - $20
Misc hoses and clamps - $30
Total - $816
Toasting my roommate in his stock 94 Ford Escort - Not even funny!!!

Entire Engine Bay:

Oil Pan Tapping:

This was a tight squeeze, you can see the battle scars on the valve cover.

Custom junkyard radiator hose piping & dsm charge piping:

...more piping:

Hidden sidemount intercooler, this took a lot of creativity to get the piping worked out:

Resistor Box wired up, this was pretty easy, once I knew which wires went to which injector:

Oil return, this is just temp until I can get some high temp hose. Does it look like it'll flow good?

Fuel Management, aka map limiter, so far this work's pretty bad ***:

Injectors, don't tease all the clips, I actually needed to switch from stocks to dsms...so that was for convenience, it'll change later:

Celebration of a job well done:

Well that's the end of a long and educational journey. Please critique everything. But just so you know, I'm a broke college student....that's planning on graduating this year and the first few checks from working will go right to engine internals to up the boost. This is day 2 of boost and I'm already adicted and looking for more power.

hows it feeling? nice stuff. its a lot better than my first junkyard turbo buildup hehe

i understand the situation of being a broke college student but, i think having a little more patience and saving a little more money would have paid off really well with a better setup.

not to rain on your parade but, that setup doesn't look very efficient and it just looks slapped together. when you decide to get a better turbo system that would just be $816 down the drain. best of luck none the less.

cool. hands on education rules. what size is that charge piping? especially to the TB? save up $100 and redo the piping, then hit the dyno!

The map limiter is pretty good. Took a little while to get everything worked out, but that's because I'm at 4000+ altitude and my map sensor voltage was a little off from normal. But once I figured that out, it was pretty easy.

Yes, it control's fuel, as much as the afc hack does.

It's feeling really good. I'm loving it. I'm sure I'm just scratching the surface of the dark side....and can't wait until I have more money to do a serious turbo setup.

The piping is 1 3/4", I'm pretty sure. It's the same size as the stock dsm piping. So that's what I went with for the entire system. I will definately go with 2" aluminum piping as soon as I get a nice front mount intercooler. But for now, that's what I'm using.

Power to ya for doing one of the (if not the absolute) cheapest Integra Turbo setups I've ever seen!
How is that turbo working out for you? When does it spool up, what boost do you have it set at, etc.?

Also, If I were you the first thing I would do would be to change that oil return out to a steel braided setup - you can do it without spending more then 30ish dollars, and that hose you've got on there is NOT going to last too long.

First off - Good job. I am sure that some of those items were hard to come by being over there.
Second - I HAD almost the same setup pushing 7psi on a stock LS, got it dynoed - 211.2whp and 189ft.tq. - if you were curious to see the what your around. (same motor, turbo, and bov.)
I understand being 'broke', but you'll be happier with larger intercooler pipping.

and again

Props for at least putting something together.

Yeah, the first thing is I'm going to upgrade is my intercooler and get a front mount, then of course it's going to be the charge pipes.

So far I'm loving the turbo, with it's fast spool up. I'm pretty sure that I am fully spooled by 4000 rpms. And I start spooling at about 3000 rpms. And it pulls all the way to redline. It's got the stock wastegate, and it's set for 8 psi.

And I do know that my oil return will have to be changed. But what sucks is that I've got a 10 an steel braided line ID, and the return size is 10an OD. So it just won't fit over it. If anyone know's how I can get that to fit, that would be perfect.

And yes people, this was about 80% educational, to get hands on experience and only 20% for an actual turbo setup. I was really happy with my stock teg, but wanted to put together a turbo kit. $800, I didn't think I could go wrong.

Oh yeah, and for cheap injectors...I just asked the guy at the junkyard if those pintle caps were removable...then he went ahead and tried to remove them and ended up breaking two of them. So I pretended that they were important and was responsible for the spray pattern. And he ended up selling them to me for half the price, but I still got all 4 because he wouldn't be able to sell 2 broken ones to anyone.

And the resistor box, just tell them that you can get the exact same thing at radio shack for $3. I got 3 resistor boxes for $10.

Overall, I loved the experience and the pull my car has. Boost is so adicting!!!

I suggest everyone doing a setup....as long as you have patience, you can piece your kit together for cheap. It took me about 9 months to get everything.

Does my 10an oil return line look too "uphill" for good flow. I've got a 4an feed line.

I had a DSM intercooler, the pipes were waay too small. it caused a bottleneck and just heated things up. I'm switching to a front mount very soon.

Yeah, i think that I'm going to weld two dsm intercoolers together and get the ends/pipes rewelded.
