i can't tell you for sure if it will work or won't work, but it looks very small for my taste.

hmm, maybe dyno with it on and off and see what happens. i wouldnt suggest running no filter but that thing looks pretty small. might choke you up.

Re: (jdm_dc_fan)
Just take your alternator off. You can survive most 1320' runs on a big Optima battery. Most...
Based on flow data I've seen in the past, it should flow more than a mushroom filter (they really suck), and those are enough for large t66-like supra turbos.

no info on hp support on k&n website....i ordered a 5" one in length with a metal top, cause i heard plastic tops go bad. Im gonna get some PCV pipe or something to angle the filter away from the alternator.

Re: (aleks77)
it will still work as a filter, it will also kill some power FOR SURE, i also have a tiny filter and don't mind the power drop, i prefer to protect my $1300 turbo but if you can fit a bigger filter it would be MUCH better, that thing is like 1/3 the size of mine and i consider mine small.

i also have a K&N filter like that but atleast double the size. was thinking about just putting it right on my turbo also but because i have the greddy cast manifold should i worry about it melting because it's so close to the motor?

yeah well i use the greddy manifold and filter sits on other side. but the actual turbo is VERY close to the motor also. but you can just simpley undo the clamp and roll it out a can't you? if so then i should be able to make my K&N work also.

Re: (rustydusty1717)
everybody on here posting about filters post a photo of your engine bay, i want to see what you guys are working with, its in your best interest to fit the largest filter you can, even it may crush a little.

Re: (blinx9900)
Instead of going on heresay I'd call K&N and see if they have some technical data available on the capability of the filter. Next I'd say to look into the possibility of fabbing something to relocate the filter. If that wasn't possible, then lastly I'd say do a dyno run with and without to inform others.

Re: (RC000E)
With my topmount setup, my only filter spot is where the P/S reservoir goes... luckly I have it removed & recirculated. Mine is a K&N that I got 5-6 years ago, 6"L x 5"W, 1/4" clearance all around. Even with that large rubber top, its neve sucked in - but I don't have a huge turbo either.
OP post a picture of your engine bay, specifically the filter/turbo area up close.

ok i got the filter on, i bought a 5" filter, pretty decent size, as big as would fit, with metal cap cause i heard rubber ones go bad over time. Now i had to bend the **** out of the fins to make it fit, and i also installed the filter at like a 20 degree angle on the turbo, it seems very tight all around tho. Here is some pix, please let me know if this is gonna be a problem? It does not look like i punctured any holes in the actual filter.

my problem is my turbo sits other way around and filter is on passenger side of the car. i'm also using a cast manifold and it sits very close to the motor. what i'm worried about it the rubbed on the filter actually melting.
also my sensor currently goes in my air intake tubing for my filter. what would i do with it?

that looks fine as long as there is no metal fraying off that could potentially go inside the compressor. I think running a fliter like that is better then no filter at all, my friend runs a crushed filter like that on his GT40R on his rx2 due to space limitations also and the car is a beast!!

then your being a bit premature aren't you, maybe it be best to get it IN YOUR CAR, then see what you can fit...

it's been in the car for 6 months? i just hate all the extra piping the greddy kit came with and i'd rather just put the filter right on the turbo itself. was just asking if anything has done it with their greddy kit. just worried about the actual filter melting.

mine is a little bigger than yours OP but the difference with it on and off is not worth risking the turbo by running no filter or a mesh screen. ill admit on my turbo crx i ran around with no filter because i didnt daily it and it was just an old turbo. my tuner did a pull with and without the filter back to back and the difference was minimal according to the dyno.
cliffs: not running a filter is not worth it especially if the turbo you have is 1200 dollars
i guess the anti surge gives it a little more breathing room.
with the filter

i dont think the alternator bracket gets hot, well not hot enough to melt rubber. Ill keep an eye on it, how dangerous is it to get a little piece of metal in into the compressor housing? just curious
