A few questions about doing a turbo D series..any help is appriciated
I did a search for some of this stuff..What is a decent price to pay for a turbo out of a probe or 626?..I heard these fit good in a crx thats why I decided to hunt for one of them. Next question is will I need a intercooler? I only want to run around 5.5-6psi untill i rebuild my d16. From what Ive read I will need check valves to keep the ecu from tweaking. Will I need a FMU? Bigger injectors? I will need a BOV..will one of a probe/ 626 work? Will I need a boost controller with this setup? Im gonna use a Std manifold with adapter plate which I have.Anything else I will need on the engine? Thanx for the help

probe/626 turbo, yes it will work well/fit no probs,
intercooler, yes you'll be needing one.
chq valves, yes- unless running a stand alone ecu.
injectors, yes 440/550's will work well.
and if using the d15 STD manifold then it must be port matched to your d16 gasket.
dont half a.ss s.hit when it comes to FI projects, it aint worth it in the long run,

hope i was of some help,

It has been my experience that an intercooler is not neccessary for 2.5-6 lbs of boost. With that said, there is nothing wrong with cooling your intake charge. You will need the "Missing Link" MAP sensor adaptor and the FMU. I personally have the Vortec 12:1 fuel pressure regulator, it's boost dependant and doesn't require a "Brain Box" just vacuum lines. My mechanic prefers them as they run a little richer- helps prevent detonation. You won't need larger fuel injectors unless you are reprogramming/running a piggyback ECM. The safe max boost on a D16Y8 motor is 8 lbs before internals need to be replaced with more robust pistons and con. rods. Make sure you get the "Missing Link" to prevent engine light problems. The MAP sensor requires a vacuum for the ECM to determine fuel needs, and turbos create pressure in the intake thereby confusing the ECM.
Hope this helps

Will I need a BOV? IF so should I take the one of a the probe/626 or get a aftermarket one?

Cheap alternative is a dsm bov or if you want new get a bosch bov for a saab from the local parts store (don't go to saab it's like $85) for about $35.
I'm using a bosch bov that i picked up new for $35 about 3 years ago works perfectly fine for the .65 bar that i'm runing.
Other wise of you into looks get a blitz, or greddy if you don't mind spending $200 on a part that performs the same function as the cheap bosch
