Ok guys I have a built b18c1 with :
CSS CNC WERX
je pistons
eagle h beam rods
Golden eagle oil squirter plugs
crank has been turned and polished

head is a stock b16 with type r intake
fid1200cc injectors

brms top mount
tial 44mm vband wg
aem e85 fuel pump
Unknown catch can setup

Garrett GT3076R turbo.

I know I’m missing more....

can someone tell me should I upgrade the cylinder head or will the b16 work in stock form?
I’m not trying to build a race car, just a "fun daily"

The head should be fine as is. The only thing I’d look into is running a set of gsr cams, as they will perform better than the stock b16 cams.

Springs and retainers are never a bad idea, gives you the ability to rev it out a little farther on shorter geared b series trannies. Also gives some peace of mind since I am guessing with the power you will make with that setup, you’ll be hitting the rev limiter quite often ;)

Thank you for the advice.
I was wondering about that.

I also heard that gsr cams are good to run. This is somewhat of a "budget build" and I don't have loads of cash but it’s still costing me money.

Since you have such a nice block, I'd at least invest in some Supertech/Ferrea springs and retainers for longevity and peace of mind.

GSR, ITR/CTR, or S2 Tuner 1 cams would be a nice little upgrade over the stock B16 cams, but not by any means required.

GSC T1 cams along with their associated valvetrain would rock on your setup, but I'd advise you to read on some of the recent threads about the GSC cams along with spring type vs. oem hydraulic LMA's before going that route.

Be ready to read a bit, it's a long thread (great info though) -

Depending on your funds you may be best off just keeping your B16 cams and upgrading the springs/retainers. Your setup would respond well to any of the cams that I listed, but by no means are they required.

GSR or Type R cams with some springs and retainers is only thing I would change.

A stock port b16 head will be just fine, however I would buy a kit just like the one in the below link.

A full Ferrea valve train for $885 the only thing missing from the kit that I would also get is Ferrea locks which is only $70 bucks and might as well get new valve seals which again is very cheap. For less than a $1000 dollars you would have an absolutely solid valve train and peace of mind that the stock parts are not going to fail.

OP, do you already have the top mount manifold?

AZ_Civic has a good idea, but with that kit you'd also want bronze valve guides to accommodate the valves. If you wanted to keep things on the cheaper side and still reap some benefits from a stronger valvetrain, just do springs, locks, viton valve seats, and retainers.

Yes I have, I used 80lbs Ferrea springs with my Skunk2 Pro1's with close to 50psi. Only when I bought web cam pro's I moved on to 110lbs Ferrea springs.
