Default Fastest spooling small turbocharger?

hello all, I have a stock 96 LS and i want to do an inexpensive, fast-spooling, non-intercooled turbo setup running maybe 7 or 8 psi. I know the T3/T4 is a popular choice for honda motors, but are there any good alternatives? any input is greatly appreciated

If youre not going to intercool it, then just run a low buck turbo setup with a 14b turbo or something.

What you're describing sounds like a Greddy turbo kit will fit your needs perfectly... and from what I've read in the past, it seems to be the most problem-free 'kit.'

If you're just looking for the snail, look up what greddy uses for their street kit.

the 14b concept is good if you want super fast spoolup....

You'll want to upgrade in power in the future, so go T3/04 now. The larger compressor will blow cooler at "7 psi" than a 14B, too... making more power.

And with a .48 A/R exhaust side lag should be very low, provided it's a "small shaft" turbo and a monster compressor wheel is not used.

The fastest spooling turbo I've ever driven was my 95 TSi Talon with the stock T25...just be forewarned that the the car will fall on its face at high rpm..maybe go with a 14b like someone said above, it's a little bigger...

If you don't mind my asking, why would you not bother to intercool it if you're making a low-buck turbo setup? You can IC it for less than $100 and it's the cheapest power and insurance you'll ever find. Just curious.

Yeah that is true just go to a junk yard and pick out a side mount Interooler for probably under 50 bucks!

No it's not. That's engine management. Intercooling is #7 or #8 on my list of the things to attend to first.

Charge exit temps for most any turbo that isn't stupid small will be less at X psi than the charge exit temps for a Roots blower.

i think with a stock LS motor, high rpm's won't really be much of an issue. it probably will never see anything higher than 6500.

i want to go intercooler-less to save a bit of money, and to decrease the turbo lag from the long charge pipes a FMIC requires.

I would suggest the 14b over the T25. i am using the T25 on my d series, and it doesn't flow what I want towards the top. I am gaoona swap it out for a 14b or possibly a 16g.

You will regret saying that when you want more power than you want you spool? How long do you spend in the lower RPMs anyway?

t-25<14b<16g<ct-26<t3/t4<20g
that's kind of a logical progression in how fast they will spool w/o going ball-bearing.

Hrm, you've been listening to old wive's tales.

When I went from non-IC to IC on my CRX, simultaneously changing from a .48 AR turbine to a .63 AR turbine, my spool point went up 600 rpm to 3000 rpm. Big whoopty-****. My charge piping was nice sized 2.5", and the volume of my 24X11X4" custom IC is 30% larger than one of those "600whp" Precision ICs.

My IC cost me $60, btw - joined three DSM SMIC cores together for ghetto FMIC goodness. Thunderbird SC ICs are pretty good sized and can be had off ebay for $20-35 plus shipping all day long. If you plan on pushing any real power, I'd go ahead and get an IC, but if you just want to run 6-8 psi with a minimum of hassle and cost for right now, go non-IC.
