Default F23 Block/H22 Head [(2.3 DOHC VTEC) 56k no, no...]

Well I had an H23 Block with an H22 head running for a while that I was going to boost until I spun the bearings, so I've been working on this project for the last 7 months(which means it has been just sitting there half of that time)...
Here is the link to the original thread https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1069869...
and here are some pics of the build and then the finished product...

My old H23 VTEC(h23a1 block/h22a1 head)...

Stock F23a1 SOHC VTEC...

Mock up of F23 block w/H22 head...

Dropping in the motor

Turbo system installed...

Here is a complete list of the setup...

F23a1 Block (86mm Bore x 97mm Stoke)
H22a1 Head (DOHC VTEC)
AEBS Head-studs
Hondata IM Gasket
FMax Log Manifold
Turbonetics T3/to4b
2.5" Downpipe (Open)
Tial 35mm Wastegate(Open Dumptube)
450 DSMs
Walbro 255lph HP Fuel Pump
Hondata S100-B
6" Intercooler
HKS SSQ BOV

Removed: PS, AC,
EGR, FITV, Butterflies,
Battery relocated to trunk...

So I tried to start er up on Wednesday and something is wrong in the tranny... I think the throwout bearing isn't aligned correctly causing it to rub against the pressure plate fingers or something... Some people have said to remove the slave cylinder and I might be able to adjust the shift fork but I don't know... Worst case scenario I have ot take the tranny back off, but no big deal... I'll do whatever it takes to get this thing running cause I'm supposed ot get it tuned next week...

Constructive criticism/advice is always welcome...

I figure the injectors will max out somewhere close to 300 whp... But with the 97mm stroke I should be looking at close to 250-275 wtq ...

Sorry if this is a dumb question to some but never really was interested in h series til now. What benefits are you getting by putting the h duece head on the h23 block. Is it like a ls vtec type thing. Also i remember reading a post a while back about some guy doing the same thing and it seemed like alot of people doubted him. If i am talking about the same post. Also I dont really need any smart remarks just trying to learn more

Are the f23 sleeves stronger? I know jack about f or Hseries. But it looks real nice and Im sure you will be puting down some real power soon. Good luck with it.

Uhh, not gonna happen Sam. 2point6 has a 98 mm stroke, and he makes around 180 wtq.

I would have taken the flexplate off and installed the manual tranny before putting the whole thing in the car, but that's just me . Good luck getting the issue all sorted out, seems like a sick project .

that was NA, this is FI. F-series got plenty down low torque.

this is @8.4psi on a drag t3/t4b, AEM EMS street tuned by me, very very conservative tune, stock F23 block. he'll make 250wtq easily.
and they said it can't be done, very sweet head swap! i'd like to see how this turns out. get it together and give us a lil sample. @17psi i was @75% duty cycle on dsm 450's. 15psi by 3,700rpms

sorry for the thread jack, i just gotta give the love to the F blocks. keep us up to date.

looking good, i want to see that thing when its running and atleast half *** tuned

And for all the questions about whats needed to put the H head on the F block, go look in all the threads that are in the prelude section.

kidna off topic is your lude sitting in the car port at hayleys (sp?) house? i might stop by one day during work. (i'm currently in windsong)

Well... H-Series are made of FRM which means you can't use aftermarket pistons on the stock sleeves, but F-Series are made of Iron so aftermarket pistons drop right in(Even though I'm still using stock pistons)... Also due to the weak ring landings on the H-Series you can only run 7-8lbs of boost usually before it goes, but you see stock F-Series blocks holding up to 15lbs all day long... Plus F blocks are just cheaper and way more abundant... Most any import junkyard can get you an F22 or F23 for $150-300...

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by X2BOARD &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Did you need to do any drilling or plugging like the lsvt's ? </TD></TR></TABLE>
For any F/H Block/Head combo you DO NOT need to drill or tap for the oil pressure... The Oil Control Orifice for VTEC is in every F/H block... However, if you use an F series block with an H22 head you have to PLUG TWO OIL DRAINS... If you follow the link to my thread in the first post you can see pictures of why and how you do it... One good thing to note for you non-vtec guys, If you use an H23(DOHC Non-VTEC) Head on an F series block, everything lines up perfectly and you DO NOT need to plug any drains...

I know it would not make 250wtq with a 97mm stroke NA, but if you would have read the post or even just glanced at the pictures you would have known this motor is turbocharged...

actually it will. i made 281whp and 233wtrq with a real bad dip during vtec cross over...i mean a 120whp drop because of a bad map sensor LOL....
(this was on my prelude about 2 years ago...current one will be dynoed shortly )

Good luck Sam! Keep us posted

actually, h22a's ringlands are breaking left and right under boost because of a bad tune. there are a few guys on here that are boosting stock h22a's with no problems with a good tune.

sounds like it's going to be a tq monster. good luck.

I believe you need to search w/ key words like G23 to get this answered.

I remember something about using parts of three different engines to make this.
(F,H,K)

But an interesting combo non the less.
