Default From experience.. what do you guys recommend? (clutch)

i have searched, but all proved to have too much of a single sided and non factual statement.. and i want to know what you guys think FROM EXPERIENCE... i need to choose between these four combos..its gonna go in a civic si with 200whp and will go up to 300whp... please include a description of why you decided to choose the combo...i dont mind stiff pedal pressure, but this is going to be daily driver, thats why im not aiming at puck disks... tia..

-by the way.. XT/SS is extreme plate with street disk..

From what I have seen and used, I would definately go with the ACT 2600 w/ Street Disc.

I have used the XT Plate w/ a 6 puck in my car since it had 15k miles on it. I personally love the 6 puck setup on the street.... However, this is definately my own personal taste

As far as the street disc w/ a 2600 plate goes, that is what I ran in my DSM and I loved that setup. Nice engagement, stiff pedal feel and a great all around setup. Takes a ton of abuse!

Flywheel wise, I would definately recommend the new ACT street flywheel just on price alone! You really cannot beat 249 for an aftermarket flywheel that weighs 12lbs! I have a lightened stock flywheel in my GSR that I purchased from Sohfast and it has treated me well. However, w/ the plans for this upcoming year at the track, I will definately be switching to an ACT before race season starts.

I have tried both ACT extreme and CM stage 3...I like CM a lot better...lighter pedal for easier slipping on launches, but will hold what you throw at it.

My next cltuch will be aither teh CM stage5 3puck or a multidisc setup

yeah, clutchmaster have the easier pedal pressure while at the same time will handle anythign you throw at it...most people will think my pedal pressure is not too bad, but they always stall since it's a solid disk heheheheh

try to take your car to valet

but look into action too...it's been popular ......

Wow... am I the only one that wants the clutch pedal to be just insanely stiff and at the floor?
Heh.

not good for axles when you're making 400-500 plus to the wheels

Tis true. I guess it's just the feel I'm used to. We'll see how the upcoming race season pans out w/ a stiff *** clutch, a quaiffe, and some DSS Stage 5 axles. :D

Only 3.5 months to go and it's test and tune time again.

i sorta like the stiff pedal feel also, but kills it cuz the fact that it messes up the axles... anyhow.. thanks for the input guys.. i'll be needing more though, im still deciding ..and which flywheel do you guys think is the better choice?.. dont worry about pricing, just what you guys would recommend for boosted applications.. thanks again..

i have a clutch master stage 5 clutch, it works great but might be alittle overkill for your setup. i would suggest cm stage 3 with the flywheel of your choice.

Go with the stage 4. The CM stg 3 is carbon/kevlar and needs a real break in period of 500 miles. Just go the stage 4 4 puck. You dont need to be as gentle. And its still plenty streetable..

The action 2ms, which is the dual diaphram pp with the sprung 6puck disc works pretty good. It's a little lighter then the act xtreme pp but not too much lighter. It seems to work really well. I can also get you one if interested. Thanks, Paul

Well, dont get to light of a flywheel or you will be going through the gears quicker than you can say "my car is slow".. Go with clutchmasters flywheel, it will withstand high stress. Dont go below 10lbs for a flywheel. As for the clutch- if its a street car most people want low stress pedal effort- but in your case you dont care, so you can go with any type of after market clutch that as strong (stiff) springs. This will be a large benefit to you (your car) in getting the power to the ground, cause its harder for a clutch to slip with the stiffer springs. Just incase you didnt know (i dont know how fimiliar you are with clutches) but its the pressure plate that makes contact with the flywheel to hold on and get the power to the wheels. So, on the pressure plate make sure you get a clutch that has "sticky" enough characteristics to hold around 300-350 whp. Anything with carbon/kevlar would do. STAY away from clutches that have metallic material used on their plates. This is good for race cars but sucks for street use. They need to be hot and really hot (like 1,300 degrees) to work properly. And on a setup like yours you plobobly only see like 900 in harsh use. Get a clutchmasters stage 4 and you wont regret it. Hope i helped -Ken

Stock Flywheel so you can retain your torqe and I would HIGHLY recomend Action Clutch clutches. They are VERY Quality. I had a Excedy 3 Puck cerametallic clutch and it burned up after like 5 race days or about 3 months... I bought the Action Clutch and I got the 6 puck unspring hub with a dual diaghram pressure plate. "Marvelous, just marvelous!!!! " Talk to Rocket, he will be able to find you that clutch and get you a good deal. Well hope this helps.

Later,

Sean C.
