hey guys i bought an exhaust manifold flange to fab up a turbo manifold and i checked for straightness and the damn thing is warped. i take it that its useless, correct?

If the flanges are not flat, give it to a machine shop- they can grind/machine it flat for you, unless it's REALLY bad

thats why there are mutiple studs on the head..to make it flatter..when ya tighten them up

the flange would probably get some "warpage" out of welding on it as well.

id say weld it all together than take it to a machine shop and have them check the edge that goes against the cyl head for flatness, and have them "deck/resurface" if need be.

I take it you are making a header? If its not radically warped, weld up your header(it can warp a bit during welding anyway) Then just have it resurfaced. If its not radically warped, you can just put it on, let it go through a few heat cycles and tighten the bolts while its hot a few times and it should flatten right out for you.

i would mic it 1st to see how far its warped. some shops willnt shave it if its over a certain amount cause its alot of wear on the sand paper (big *** bench sander thing, i know what i mean at least). then weld it together and then shave it. like they said it will warp more when u weld on it. all that heat..

but see the thing is the flange is only 3/8" thick and if you put a straight edge on it from end to end, you can measure a 1/16" to 1/8" warpage. if i have it machined wouldnt you think thats to thin for a turbo manifold flange?
