no, ofcourse the bigger the better, but the bends is what you need to be more concerned about if you will be staying at 2.5" Just make sure they are mandrel bent and smooth as possible, get a free flowing mufflerand you are done.

I have old tanabe racing medallion piping from my old exhaust that i'd be using. I just want a quieter muffler. I have no cat, so it would be straight through

If I remember correctly, the Tanabe piping chokes down to stock size where it mates with the cat and flares out to 60mm a couple inches later. That's definitely not going to yield the best performance. This is my old Tanabe RM, you can see where it starts off small on the cat end.
