my motor sounds the same way built engine with arais pistons + rings and after 10 miles of driving sounds the same way as yours I've done a little research haven't torn the motor apart yet but no matter how many times I adjust the valves it doesn't help hopefully yours is a valve adjustment. I really don't want to tear my engine a part but I have no choice. Everyone I let listen to it some think its the head some think its in the block funny thing though I had a old v8 mechanic take a look at it and he took the #2 spark plug boot off the distributor the ticking didn't all together go away but it was much quiter he says the small end of the rod was honed a little too much causing the number 2 piston to slap around. Keep us posted

Chris, in this case, the old v-8 mechanic was correct. Noise sounding like valve adjustment but does not go away after adjustment, usually winds up to be pin related. It won't fix itself.

hmm.....its funny it kinda sounds like the stock m5 before any throttle adjustments are made (they have forged pistons and almost no skirt and with unequal cylinder filling it gets piston slap) what odb system are you running in your car? are you gettin a check engine light from your knock sensor?

I have a ticking noise too, but after hearing that...that is way faster ticking. In my car the ticks are slow enough to count and speed up as the engine revs, but go away after the engine revs to a certain point...or I cant hear it any more. Am I having piston slap or is it something else?
Thanks

it sounds to me like you have a vlave adjustment problem. check that first then move on! what he was describing is more serious than what you have!

Re: Engine noice possible piston slap *VIDEO INSIDE* (Chemicalviper)
Update on situation, I took my car to two well know engine builders and both think its 2 different sounds one from the head and one from the block possible piston slap also one of them told me it could be fuel problem maybe bad injectors and since the compression is lower than what a stock itr runs its dumping too much fuel
we did a compression test and we got 180's accross all cylinders,
to make things worst now Im getting a CEL and its code 23 knock sensor failure?
