EGT probe in DP.. Anyone running theirs there??
Does anyone have their egt probe in their downpipe vs runner #3
I have read the past post the #3 is better for the egt..
But want to see if any are running their egt in their downpipe..

What kind of temps do you normally see when driving?
What made you place yours in your DP over runner #3?
Reason I ask is cause my #3 runner is short on manifold.
Thx
Eric

when I'm on the highway in 5th gear at 80mph temps are about 1200.
To be honest with you I don't really pay too much attention to it, but in stop and go traffic it's usually anywhere from 800 to 1100. Never seen it go past 1300, but I don't always look at it when I'm boosting, to obusy paying attention to the other cars around me.
the reason I put it there was because if for some odd reason the probe brakes off and could damage the turbo. and because the directions said to do so. I have an autometer one

Yea mine on the hwy at 75mph is about 1200 F. City driving is from 800-1100, but that's bc I almost NEVER boost in the city.

yea, mine is there. Just didn't want to worry about anything going into the turbo. In full boost, it goes up to around 800c and cruising it will be around 600-650 at around 75mph.

Re: EGT probe in DP.. Anyone running theirs there?? (swrdply400mrelay)
I have mine mounted on my DP as well, right after the turbo.
I see around 1200 degrees on the highway. I see at most 1300 when around 90mph or more.
I have not seen 1400 yet.
Around town, I see around 800-1000 once the engine if fully warmed.

well, if the temperatures the guys above are talking about are in Fahrenheit, then the readings are pretty close.
Now, I can't remember. How can you tell from the EGT gauge if you're running rich or lean?

yeah it seems as though "autoEXturbo" (on the DP) and "CzanSOHC" (on #3 runner) has about the same temperature.
looks like i'll be putting mine in the downpipe.

either way would be fine. On my first setup, I just tapped the manifold and made sure to use that liquid white stuff, can't remember the name. But it held fine. On this setup, i had it welded into the dp. Either way will work.
About you question on how to tell if your running to rich or lean. It's hard to say. If you run to rich, your temps will read high, and if your running to lean, your temps will read high. Put it on a dyno and compare the a/f reading with the egt reading. That's the best advice I can give. I will be installing a a/f guage on my car also, that way i'll get a better reading by comparing the two.
