Educate me about turbo manifolds...
Lots of choices out there. Cast, log, mini ram, ramhorn, top mount, etc. Cast is by FAR the cheapest option but I am assuming that with the cheap price comes a drawback. What is the advantage of the log vs cast, etc. Id love to only spend the money of the cast manifold but if the log offers more then just better looks I would be interested in it as well. Please explain the benefits of the different manifolds...

Log and cast perform about the same. Now if you compare it to a tubular then is a different thing. found this quickly on the FAQ on the top of the page.

the difference is flow. from cast, log, mini ram, ramhorn, top mount. least flowing (meaning less whp per lb of boost) to best flowing. also longer runner manifolds have more lag (generally.)
think of what you want out of your setup and I can help you decide which is best. for my setup I wanted minimal lag and about 330whp on a stock motor so Im running a cast manifold and higher boost, vs a ram and a little lower boost. boost doesn't destroy motors, whp does. so if you have a goal of 300 just go with a budget manifold and buy a 3 bar and run a little more boost.

Re: Educate me about turbo manifolds...
your going to have a bit of trouble making 350-400 on a 59 trim with a y8 single cam my friend. but yeah go ramhorn with something a little more stout turbowise. 60 trim would work or a gt3082r or a borg worner. sc34, sc60 plenty of options.

I was directed towards the T3/T4 50 trim in an earlier post. I was also told the GT30 was a touch on the large side. The T3/T4 50 trim Garrett is supposed to be albe to support up to 420whp or so. I didn't think 350 would be a problem with it. I've seen several dynos that would support that logic on Y8's also.

Go ram horn just look for a used one in the fi classifieds. I don't think ur building a show car and it would be way better than a log the more boost u run u will get more problems like upgrading couplers and stuff like that

Re: Educate me about turbo manifolds...
A ramhorn isn't needed. They help with VOLUME of exhaust energy but not VELOCITY. (Again, look at that FAQ).Especially with something as reasonable as 350-400whp. Now, if he were going much higher later, it would be reasonable to use. But by that point, however, he would need to change turbochargers by that point anyway.
Plenty of good tubular and even cast "log" manifolds can do that power with ease. Go-Autowerks will be fine to use.
