If it works it works but I'm with you if I had to look at stuff that is not properly mounted it would bug me as well LOL.

Re: ECT at 205 idling with fans on after highway drive
Honestly you can do a lot but it takes custom work. Me personally I would have a custom manifold made to make things fit proper but you have to pay for that but in the end it is worth it. Having the gate moved would be a start that way a shroud can be used along with a nice fan. There is a reason basically every stock car comes with a shrouded fan and that's because it helps pull all air equally from the radiator.

I wouldn't want to drop wads of cash to do it all nice and show-quality, only to find out then that it still overheats.... Gotta prove the concept first

Re: ECT at 205 idling with fans on after highway drive
Alrighty. It hit 92 degrees outside today, just about the hottest it gets here and that only happens a few days out of the year. Had a chance to put the new setup to the test!
It did pretty well. I made it almost all the way home, around 20 minutes driving at 70-75mph before the ECT hit 197 where I have my fan set to turn on. This was after I slowed a bit going thru a town so it warmed up more, before that it was solid at 195.
Around town it did fine, the fan was still able to cool it down despite how it’s mounted and how hot it was. Overall I am pretty happy with the results, and I’m sure that 99% of the summer when temps are 85 and below, the car will run plenty cool.
The next step I have planned is to get an oil temp gauge, and see if I could benefit from an oil cooler to keep temps from climbing. Might still add more venting to help underhood temps too. Driving around town today my IAT was up in the 140’s, so it’s still gettin pretty hot under there.

Re: ECT at 205 idling with fans on after highway drive
One thing I need some help with... I’ve tried setting my maximum speed for the fan to come on at 45mph a couple times, but there’s an issue maybe because I have a cable driven speed sensor, that it bounces up and down quite a bit.
So the effect it has is when I drive past the set speed, my relay buzzes loudly for a few seconds. I am thinking I could use a timed relay instead somehow to prevent this from happening. Any electrical experts that can give any advice on what to use and how to wire it up?

You've solved the problem.. Good work. Now stop driving in 95* + days..., and enjoy the car while you can.

I know, what I mean is I currently have the speed set at maximum 158 or whatever the highest it will allow, so the fan even comes on at highway speed when it isn’t helping. I’d like to set it at 35-45mph but when I do, I get the loud relay buzz at that speed if it’s on.

Oh, then if it's just really Feedback noise that you're getting the radio or other electrical accessories, and that really means you just need to get some better ground. Not changing the fan settings . The reason why you're having that buzzing noise during the car running, is because of browns. You may have the correct grounds in the standard locations, but it may mean that you need a grounding kit, to help, versus stressing the fans more than what they are already running.

It only happens when I have the fan set to turn off at a certain speed. Any other time it turns on and off normally, with one audible click from the relay.
I guess I could possibly relocate my fan relay into the engine bay and then I just won't hear it.

Re: ECT at 205 idling with fans on after highway drive
Yeah I am thinking about replacing the speedo cable and VSS if I can. The other issue is that this could affect my Hondata knowing what gear I'm in, which will throw it off when I start tuning BBG. But that's another topic...
The fan coming on wouldn't be a problem if I could get the car to cool down on the highway like I want it to. It still creeps up if it's over 80° and sunny out, if I am on the highway long enough. I would like it to stay at 190° or below, so I am still working on some ducting and venting solutions to get it there.

Re: ECT at 205 idling with fans on after highway drive
86 degrees out today, and I cruised all the way home running a 187 ect
Final verdict, not enough direct air flow to the radiator. A combination of cutting out my front bumper opening, switching to a puller fan, adding a block off plate to the side of the radiator, and then finally adding a vent in the front of my hood got me the temps I was looking for.
Even with everything else I did, there was no direct cool air flowing to the radiator that wasn’t either obscured or blocked by the intercooler, which is what led me to add this hood vent. It worked wonders.
Here is a better view of the block off plate from the front, with intercooler removed.
I also added hood spacers and am venting the hood to help clear hot air out of the engine bay. Might not make much difference with ect, but trying to reduce underhood temps. Now I can set my fan to come on at 195 degrees again to help keep it cooler in there too.
Thanks to everyone for the help.

Glad to got to where you want to be with it finally.
I'm still not getting the Temps I want yet but working on it

Re: ECT at 205 idling with fans on after highway drive
You have to think, on a warm day my intake air temps are 120-130. The air flowing through the intercooler is probably about the same temp, and just won't be able to do much to bring down the coolant temp at that point.
I also think having a means for hot air to exit the engine bay, either through vents in the hood or spacers in the rear is essential in getting more air to flow through the rad.
Good luck and keep us posted on the progress.

It's all about air flow. And you really need to get some air to the radiator that does not flow through the intercooler first.

Re: ECT at 205 idling with fans on after highway drive
Ye im gonna try get more air flow to it, I got the spal fan and a oem thermostat, I already have a vented hood and it's a EK I have so air ur coming to the top of the radiator through the front grille below the bonnet when I'm driving, not sure if i should use hood spacers at the back
Also worth mentioning, I tried removing my block off plate today to see what difference it makes, just out of curiosity. It actually seems to be running cooler WITHOUT the block off plate now. Perhaps with the other changes I've made, letting more air into the bay helps and the radiator is still getting plenty of air. I saw 185 max ect while driving this morning.

Hood spacers are an easy thing to try to see if it helps. May not make a huge difference if your hood is already vented, but you never know. My thinking is, the more easily air can escape the engine bay, the more easily air can flow into it.

Spoke too soon on removing my block off plate. It worked fine when it was 75 this morning, but not this afternoon when it was 90. I am putting it back in.

Re: ECT at 205 idling with fans on after highway drive
I suppose it’s a matter of preference. But oem turns on fan at 195. Above 202, it starts to pull timing. Also oil temps could be getting dangerously high at that point for a turbo setup, especially where mine is oil cooled only. So I prefer to keep it running below 200 for performance and longevity’s sake.
