What the expletive are you talking about? Do you understand how each system works?

Psi has no say in the matter of if you should use a W/A or A/A system. Remember, water has a high specific heat, meaning that it can absorb a lot of energy (takes a lot of energy to raise the temperature), however, that means that you need to have a high capacity of water in your system. You'll see many W/A systems with a heat exchanger, but unless you have a high volume of water, the system won't be as effective as a A/A setup. Short runs, on your typical W/A setup, will be most beneficial. Hence why you see these setups on drag cars.

To answer your question, yes, I have seen those ebay cores work. The number of fins and the overall quality of the piece is no where near what a high end intercooler is, but it works.

You the man!
Hey, btw, the water in the air to water intercoolers, where does it coming from? Is it your coolant or is it a completely separate system?

Completely seperate system.

Do a quick search on here for setups.

As for 400hp.... Not very efficent, but I'm sure it's possible.

yes, air to water intercoolers are intended for high horsepower configurations. spearco makes some quality ones and they usually sell for pretty cheap on ebay when you find them. i believe they retail somewhere around $1000 and sell on ebay sub $400 shipped. they do require a different cooling system but you mainly see these on cars with the turbo facing the front.
ie: full-race jotech civic.
or
the great laskey

so its not really a traditional route used for a daily driven high hp car or even a "mild" set up putting down 600ish whp. youre also going to have a pain in the *** time trying to plumb everything inside your engine bay unless you have the luxury of a tube chassis and fiberglass frontclip
