E85 vs water meth injection?

Im planning on starting a boost project on my GSR Eg and Im looking for 300-400hp on a GT30 or a BB t3 /T67. Im interested n having a fun street car that I drive every now n then. what are your suggestions?

Re: E85 vs water meth injection?

You want to use a 650 WHP capable turbo for 300-400 HP? GT30 is a much better choice.

You don't need E85 or alky injection to make that much power, so why complicate things by running it?

My thought was Cali pump 91 octane gas on 14-18 psi on a stock block gsr didnt sound too great? The reason I said t3/t67 cause later down the line, I might want more power and end up building the block. I understand ur point that GT30 is better suited turbo for a not too crazy turbo application. I dont wont go from a 150-160hp car then fully build it up and have a 500hp+ capable car?

91 oct is plenty for 300 hp. you'd spend less getting ARP head studs (and possibly a set of low comp pistons) than you will on converting to e85 or a meth kit. just get a good tune

What money is involved in switching to ethanol? for 3-400hp on ethanol you really don't need anything special. 1000cc injectors/walbro 225lph hp fuel pump (or better).Your going to need those anyways regardless of what fuel you use (you could get smaller injectors for those numbers on gasoline but if your going to upgrade in the future why not just get them right from the start)

I'm at 330 on e85 with the parts I listed. The rest of the fuel system is oem.

x2

Nothing has to be changed to run Ethanol other than the properly sized fuel system for your power goals.

thought u needed to change a few things for switching to e85 since it eats through aluminum and rubber?

https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-2006-2015-79/converted-si-e85-weekend-2585360/

im sure you can run it, but after a while it will start to damage anything that is magnesium, aluminum, or rubber.

2 years later no damage here......

i do agree. about the no damage on the e85..

Re: E85 vs water meth injection?

I do like e85 better..but i am going to use probably want to go with water/ meth injection.. cause i will only use it when i am on high boost.. and it might last a little longer.. plus i can carry around methonal/ water as a mix.. so that is why i might go into it..

Re: E85 vs water meth injection?

I had a meth kit and sold it in fear of a nossle clogging or a pump failing and toasting my motor before I could even catch it......

the 30r will still give you 550whp when you decide to turn it up. Probably my favorite street car turbo of all time.

X2 had it sitting in my car and being driven for 6+months. Just cut open my old fuel filter to see what it looks like, and found NOTHING at all. Looks just like it should..

Re: E85 vs water meth injection?

e85 is similar to alcohol why would it eat aluminum i know it will corrode the rubber parts in a fuel system other than that nothing, nylon gaskets in place of the rubber

just going off the case studies (and why FFV vehicles use different materials)

ive only herd of boats having problems with e85

Re: E85 vs water meth injection?

Methanol has the corrosion issues that have been mentioned. Ethanol (primary ingredient in E-85) will not cause problems. Additionally Ethanol does not have the same cooling properties that Methanol has.

E85 is more then enough. The AWD motorsports Evo runs 8's on it.

Re: E85 vs water meth injection?

etanol is a type of alcohol and i could have sworn it does have the cooling propeties as meth just not as much

How would this differ from a fuel injector nozzle clogging or a fuel pump failing?

I've got a Labonte WMI kit on my JRSC; my tuner has it tuned so the motor doesn't explode if I run out of meth mix. That is, I get the advantage of lower IATs, just no extra boost.

Have you ever looked at the ordice's on a Meth Kit Nossle? Not comparable to a fuel injector.

If your fuel pump fails your car shuts off........ a Meth Kit isnt going to shut your car off in the event of failure.

That sucks for you. It's the users job to make sure that no forign objects get into the meth supply (causes for clogging nozzle) and as for the electric pump failing there is a VERY low chance again unless it's caused by the triggering setup.. In which case again it's user error. If a fuel pump fails and your car goes lean it destroys the engine how is that any different. Point is you need to properly install reliable parts to keep your vehicle reliable, as well as maintain them.

Ethanol is harmful to RAW aluminum. Anything you have on your car is going to be hard anodized if it's oem. All cars made after the mid 1980s have to be able to handle at least 10 % ethanol.

There are some guys on here who have been on the 3-4 year mark running it without issue.

Honestly you can make the power you want with or without ethanol/meth injection and you won't go wrong doing either method.

e85 is awesome, water meth works well also, but not AS well...
