Default Dynomax super turbo muffler 3 inch

I just picked this up today at a shop in branford,CT for like 85$....I just wanted to get some imput on it..see if anyone else was running the same one, and how you guys like it..

My setup
gsr block/head
SRP 9.2-1 pistons
eagle h beams
p/p head- 3 angle valve jobber
drag e-trim kit

I figured I already spent like a ton of money on the car so I wanted a cheaper exhaust...My last exhaust was a racing medalion and it cost me like 550$, so theres no way i was going to spend that again.

plus im really into the sleeper/DL look, I was thinking about getting a pipe welded onto the end of for that 45 degree angle look...

just looking for some feedback guys......thanx

My girlfriend used to have a 2.5" version on her 99 SI. It was painted black and you couldnt tell any different between it and the stock exhaust. It also was pretty quiet with two resinators.

is it straight through? (well it would have to be at an angle with how the inlets/outlets are) or does it have chambers

It's a chambered.

The dynomax mufflers are great IMO, but they don't last long. They'll get loud over time (1-2 years). Very good power for the price. Not very loud when new. I believe it's a wool mesh on the inside that burns/rusts out after a while.

Dynomax Ultraflow SS last longer and are approximately the same.

The 17743 has 2.5" internal pipes ('flow tubes'). 17773 is stainless and has 3" internal pipes. 17792 also has 3" internal pipes.

Oops, axe that comment. Surely they're not everlasting, but I switch reliability stories in my head. The Dynomax mufflers I have had lasted for 2.5 years and are fine.

I have a 2.25" Super Turbo muffler on my NA teg and it sounds great. I've had it for 4 years and it hasn't really gotten louder or rusted out yet .

i have the 3'' superflow on mine, offset with the straight through design. 3'' with no cat or res, it's actually quieter than my old setup with stock header, cat, piping, and ractive muffler. Quieter untill i get on it hard then it's pretty loud but a great muffler for the price

I really doubt you lose much, and they are a hell of alot quieter than straight thru designs.

wow this thread came back to life...

anyhow I cant complain even a little bit, I love the way it sounds/looks..Its so stealth..

the guy at the muffler shop did the bpipe one day and the muffler another day..I heard the exhaust w/ no muffler on it..It was so fawkin loud, i thought there'd be no way the dynomax could absorb all that noise. But sure enough it did...best 200$ exhaust system ive even bought

The turbo muffler is not really designed for turbos.. you want a straight through design not chambered.. Its going to hurt power.

If it's a chambered muffler you DO NOT want to use it. Going from dual 2.5" flowmasters (chambered) to dual 2.5" Dynomax Ultra-Flows (straight through, not chambered like these) on my old mustang gained over 30 RWHP and 40 RWTQ, and spool was significantly quicker. I would not run a chambered muffler on another turbo setup after seeing how much it cost me, and that was with a fairly high flowing dual 2.5" setup. I would imagine the losses through single 2.5 or 3 inch would be even worse.

OK, well, is there a "quiet" straight through? I haven't heard one. I'm probably going to bolt on a chambered one anyway, the Tanabe Racing Medallion with a 1" silencer in it has to be more restrictive.

Run a resonator or two before the muffler and it dramatically quiets it down. I've found that the straight through at an angle mufflers are typically quieter than the ones you can look straight through as well. A welded ultra flow and a pair of resonators would make a fine exhaust system for a street car.
