Dyno Test: Rocket E85 vs. 93 octane. OEM H22 Turbo
I never really planned on dynoing this car but I got a chance to today and decided to test my rocket e85 while I was there and got a large surprise.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...psba8b597c.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...ps348bdeea.jpg Both passes are at 15psi with no timing changes from the pump tune. 70whp increase! Needless to say I left it alone and got off the Dyno before I broke my DD lol. Setup: Stock h22 short block EuroR head Crower springs/retainers ARP head studs Stock cams Home made manifold Turbonetics T-GA billet 5454 2.5-3" DP/exhaust Tial 38mm Tial Q Go-Autoworks charge piping and intercooler Rosko Racing EuroR manifold Grams 1000cc walbro 255 Just thought I would share |

Wow! How much does that cost per gallon?
|
Re: Dyno Test: Rocket E85 vs. 93 octane. OEM H22 Turbo
You gained 70hp with NO timing changes? Did you make any other changes?

zero timing changes, same duty cycle on the boost solenoid. obviously I had to make fuel changes since the properties of pump vs e85 in itself are different.
Great job Blake. |
Re: Dyno Test: Rocket E85 vs. 93 octane. OEM H22 Turbo
Wait till you start throwing more timing at it! :P

There are others in this forum who would do well to study this post and the plots. Great job Blake. Once I put a built block in it, I will throw timing at it but 12psi and dumbed down timing is fun enough for the street. |

I'm just curious - what tranny is this motor pushing through?

Try Q16 now !

I'm good for now. Apparently free information I give out isn't good enough to some people.
I will perform this test again when I have a built bottom end on the Internet's Dyno (dynojet). I don't feel comfortable running the engine at that much power on the stock engine considering I have to drive it every day. If I had an immediate back up, I would not care. |
Re: Dyno Test: Rocket E85 vs. 93 octane. OEM H22 Turbo
Happy to hear of the great #'s!!! Can't wait to see the actual race car in action!
Curious what kind of boost you were running at ifo? I want to go for a ride!!! |
Re: Dyno Test: Rocket E85 vs. 93 octane. OEM H22 Turbo
Blake, great job, some of us, who do actual R/D know how it feels to have people still doubt, and down your claims. Its fine, keep at it dude and keep working, Great results brother!

At the end of the day I went to the Dyno, made a couple pulls and Drained the fuel. Added different shit, uploaded the e85 map, made a couple pulls and this was the outcome. If I had more data I would share it. If I could have made before and after track runs, I would have.
But I don't have that. I, too, am very surprised with the torque pickup on the low end but nothing was changed to the Dyno, software...etc and the runs were made on the same day, same outside temps and as close to the same iat and ect as I could get. These are the results. Don't like it, make your own data and feel free to post it. |

thanks for sharing sir.

Ive been contemplating whether or not I should run e85 when I get to boosting my car. There's a pump (a few actually) that has e85 and isnt to far away to get gas as long as I keep it full.
Those results just decided it for me. E85 or bust. None of this crap 91 az has will do for me. |

Blake great job of sharing your results, may I ask what fuel pressure your running?

Fuel pressure is 65psi. |

The pump E85 may not net the same results. I have never tested any from a pump so I cannot give you any insight. |

That's is amazing results for just a fuel change. How did it feel to drive? Must have been a hell of lot quicker

I just know it pulled way harder on the Dyno. Enough, as I said, to let out early. Camera lens is cracked....sorry. but that's on the way to the Dyno on 12-13psi. 3rd gear has to be pedalled quite a bit unless the tires are hot. Regardless to what any Dyno is saying, the car is incredibly fun to drive. And in the end, that's all I care about. |

Goes well =)

and yes, any e85 that is blended from a fuel supplier will always be higher quality and much more consistent than pump ethanol. but hey, that's why they make ethanol content analyzers for fuel systems now :P I wonder how Rocket would stack up to FTWs E85 offerings |
