Default Dx tranny instead of Ex tranny for Boost?

I heard that for serious boost on the single cam u can run faster with the DX tranny instead of the shorter geared EX tranny...is this true? does anybody know if this works at all? It sounds very possible cuz my first and second gear are kinda useless on a nice cold night with 12 psi (it flies thru them like nothing) so if I had a tranny that gears that were a bit longer then i could get more use from them. Advice anybody??

Longer gears are generally better in order to stay boosted the maximum amount of time. But from what I understand the ex tranny is just right for use with the greddy kit. If you havent noticed, the tdoh4 runs kinda runs out of breath near redline. My dyno sheets told me to shift at about 6,800rpm with the same setup at you. So if you winding out 2nd and 3rd you may be slowing yourself down more w/ the dx tranny. Also the dx tranny will drop you out of the power band when you shift because the gearing is longer, the ex is best suited to keep you in the powerband for our cars w/greddy kit...in my opinion.

You'll find out just how bad the DX tranny sucks the first time you hit 3rd..........

BBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!

Use a stanard issue EX/Si tranny. The gearing is almost identical to the B series LS tranny. Which most seem to love under boost.

Yep, DX tranny sucks. I will probably swap to an EX one if the price is right.

Shorter gears will ALLWAYS be faster. If not taken to an extreme.

I just put a CX tranny on a DX motor to just see what it does, AMG, those are the longest gears in the world. 80 mph in 2nd gear, i got up to 118 in 3rd but i let out.(real bad tires) I would not recommend this tranny unless you live on the salt flats.

Point well taken....Maybe I just need to change my shift point to get more from my second and third. First gear is way to wild especially with an open downpipe but nice sticky tires should help with that.
thanks to all of you for your input.
