It may sound dumb but I have heard it sounds like BBs' ratteling around in your engine. My engine has been making a sound sort of like this under high boost. I havn't been driving my car hard since I noticed it until I can finish my Vafc hack. Can somone tell me what It sounds like? BTW the car is a 99 Si with greddy turbo.

Also I am running the POS blue box. Would it still blink if it was hooked up wrong? How exactly does it work?

How loud is it? Would I have to listen hard or could I hear it with the stereo on at a moderate level?

Like loud WTF, or like, Shhhh can you hear that sound WTF. The sound my car makes is low enough that you only hear it with the stereo off. Im not sure what it is but I would rather be safe than sorry.

on my LS turbo it sounded to me like the suspension popping. I told people it was my chassis flexing and popping from all the torque.....it was actually my pistons cracking between the rings.

It doesn't always sound the same.

I hear it most often- when I'm at a stop light with my window down, and the beater in the next lane guns it when the light turns green.

It can be difficult to hear at all if you have a loud exhaust system.

I am new to boost, and have a JRSC'd LS and when I started to drive it it sounded like a diesel almost...pretty certain it was detonation, I pulled back in the garage and parked it...

Now what?

It's not really that loud either. Definately have to have the radio off and possibly windows up to hear it clearly. IF you can hear it with the radio blasting... well.. you won't be hearing it very long...

you will kno if your detonating... when you go wide open on any gear on a low RPM you will hear a tacktacktacktack and it will go away thats where i hear most pinging and detonating at WOT on low rpms so if you want to see if your really pinging or detonating at a stop shift early on first to 2nd and go WOT and if you here a tack sound or ting then its detonating or pinging

I hear some wierd noises like electrical sparks or something coming from down below where my feet are almost. It only happens when i am at max boost of 9 psi. Its not loud but definitely makes you say, "wtf is that". Could It be misfireing? I pulled a code saying that cyl 3 and 4 are misfireing. Would this be the sound it makes? Or is it detonation?

I had the same damn question tonight . . . . just out of no place I thought WTF does Detonation sound like. Every once in a great while I hear this little like puff of air that sounds like a really soft *** back fire . . . like maybe someone delt a little fart or something . . . . . could that be detonation? Is detonation and back firing 2 different things, or are they the same, and how can you fix it?

Detonation is also called "pinging" so that may be descriptive in itself.

But from what ppl are saying it can sound differently...

Ever hear of ppl on older/broken in cars saying they have to use a higher octane or it "pings..."

Right now I'm running a greddy kit, stock, on a stock d16z6 open DP. And I get some off-throttle backfire/popcorn sounds... could that be pre-ignition, or detonation?

back firing is caused by running really reach and it being ignited in your cat area, ever hear a SEMI downshift on a freeway? and you hear taht really loud brataktaktaktaktak, well just imagin that being very faintly to hear...and yes you would say.. "whats that noise" and you prolly try to make your car make that noise again it it does
