DSM Blow off valves any good?
I'm in the process of piecing together my custom turbo kit and trying to make it as cheap as possible. Are the 1g dsm blow-off valve any good? I see them on eBay for around 30-40 bux, polished too. Anyone know how they sound?

No, they seem pretty good. You might want to get a new Bosch BOV instead, they are pretty cheap (I think like $30-$50) and you know Bosch is good stuff.
I think if you "crush" the 1G DSM it's good up to like 18 PSI.
I think to use it you'll need to have a small pipe welded to your charge pipe, then use hose and clamps to attach the DSM BOV to your charge pipe.

All the DSM stuff is good for us cheap Civic guys.
I was going to transplant an entire 1st gen Eclipse system (including modified downpipe and D15z1 manifold with adaptor) to my Civic but it wouldn't clear the A/C. If that wasn't an issue I'd probably have the cheapest turbo system ever.

Yes they are good. Thats what I am going to be using for my budget turbo kit. Got it for $40 shipped from dsmtrader.com
The flange and gasket can be found at roadraceengineering.com
These BOV are good for about 18 uncrushed and low 20's when crushed. They are pretty loud from what i remember of a friend that had it on both his 1G and 2G DSM, thats even with it being plumbed back into the intake, so going into the atmosphere should be louder.

Not trying to be stupid or anything, but why don't you just get a 1G AWD DSM? You can find some for around $3k-4k. A few mods and you can hit low 13's, high 12's on stock turbo.
Anyways, just a thought.

Thats sounds like your trying to be pretty ****** stupid.....
Yeah, go get a DSM. If for every question on the peopld getting junk yard turbos, you dont see people sayin "Why dont you just buy an 89 Turbo Coupe Thunderbird, they can be had for like $500"
Damn dude, use your brain
Besides, I think 99.9999% of the people are on honda-tech, because they LOVE their H/A cars.....

I am seriously thinking about transplanting an entire 1g Eclipse system to my 2g Integra. Hoping to do it all for under $1000.

Removing the a/c wasn't an option?

i have 3 friends on custom kits using them right now, a civic HX, a 91 eclipse GS and a 94 elantra. they actually sound pretty cool, and the elantra runs 14psi daily.

1G blow off valves are good to about 17psi. If crushed properly it'll hold ~22-25psi. You won't get the ricey blow off sound like the HKS or Blitz but it works great. The 2G BOV is plastic and leaks at about 12-13psi. Just make sure the flange fits your application.

Yeah good question, anyone know the answer? Crushed sounds like something bad, lol, like u crush the bov by stomping on it then put it back on. heheh

That crushing is pretty much what it sounds like. it just takes a little finesse with a vise.
i recommend the Bosch BOV. It works great in my app and is cheap. The 2nd gen bov seems cheap to me, I have a spare.
Anybody want a 2nd gen dsm BOV? Real cheap.

Re: DSM Blow off valves any good? (RGAZ)
Crushing it will help it hold more boost. Put it in a vise and crush it a few mm's. Not crush as in crush til it's flatten or non-functional. But anyways, for MOST applicatons here, you probably don't even need to crush it. It's good for up to 15-17psi, which is more than enough for MOST people in here. If you're going higher than that, then I'm assuming you have enough $$$ to invest in an aftermarket BOV.
The 2G BOV is made of plastic. I threw mine out ASAP. I don't even think it held any boost pass 9psi?

i have a 1g bov in my 2g GSX whcih is awesome. It will hold boost until the stock 2g which is plastic. Makes a wwooosssshhhh noise (sounds like lots of air moving through a small tube )
My 2g bov couldnt hold more then 13-14psi before it would leak. I have my DSM boosting 17psi and with the 1g bov i have no problems.
