drove around first time! need opinions...
last night I finally took it for a ride up and down the street after warmed up. A/F is about 10:1 the whole time... I only drove for about 10-15 minutes total. slowly bringing it up to 4krpm then back down in first and second gear. timming is about 1/2" advanced from 16deg mark (I'll fix that tonight).
no bad noises, and seems to run fine for what it is tune wise... only it felt like loss in power as I approached zero on the boost gauge...
pulled in the garage, checked compression in cyl #1 and it's still at 100psi...
then changed oil. plugs are black also...
1) am I too rich and not seating the rings because the cyl is getting washed?
2) did I not drive enough to seat the rings?
any other ideas?
fully built b16, s100, 780cc, bla bla bla... see sig link for details.

Re: drove around first time! need opinions... (turbosi03)
i guess you have the turbo kit all installed and whatnot, but for the break in i wouldnt have it installed. i just broke my motor in recently and i let it warm up to operating temp. held it between 1500-3000RPM, pulled it out of the garage and drove it in first to 6k then let it down slow, second to 6k then back down slow, third all the way to 6k then back down slow. a friend of mine with a fully built lsvtec broke it in this method with his file fit rings (same as me) and his car runs 100% butter. no smoke what so ever. so i opted to break mine in the same way. after i did this 1,2,3 gear stuff i did it about 10 more times. then brought it up to 7 a few times. this method seemed to work for me the only problems i have with my car now is the alternator just took a crap, which will also hopefully solve my speedo issue! another reason i wouldnt break it in with boost (unless you bring it right to the dyno for tuning during break in ) is the fact that if you are running to rich than you could wash the rings out. and if your running to lean you are putting more stress on the motor than neccessary. during break in you want it to run perfrect. which is why i opted with stock injectors/ECU for my break in.

yeah I don't have the option of running N/A because I would have to get all kinds of stock parts I don't have. this sucks because my tunner is 6hrs from me and i have no way to make sure things are definately ok with the motor before I bring it to him for a tune.
any other ideas on what I should do?

Find someone else to tune with, what are you using to tune? I'm sure you can find someone on here or pgmfi.org or homemadeturbo.com in your area that can tune with whatever you have.

i wouldnt drive the car again untill it is tuned...trailer it to the tuner. i hope you didnt hurt the rings with that rich of an A/F. the rings seat in the first few mins you drive it. get it tuned ASAP.

How could you possibily think 10:1 AFR is ok for ANY engine condition? Bring the fuel down until its about 14.0:1, thats safe for NA. Change your plugs, check your oil then warm it up to temp.
And break it in like SSBPGSR said. Do a few mid throttle, mid rpm runs, back off the throttle and let the rpms decel from engine braking. And I increase the throttle and rpm a little with every run. Make sure you let the engine decel by itself in gear with no throttle. By the 5th mile Im usually at full rpm and full throttle. And from there you can beat the crap out of it.
Then do a compression check, the numbers should increase rapidly for the first 50-100 miles. I had 95% full compression by mile 250 and 100% full compression by mile 750. I kept a log of my compression readings.

Good way to break it in!
don't turn on that motor until your can get your fuel fixed...your rings won't seat properly with those rich conditions. Trailer or tow it to your tuner if you have to
