Default driving your turbo car w/out intercooler piping...

im supposed to go get my dp made in the morning, but i dont have the intercooler pipes made yet. would it be ok to drive it w/out them, just keep the rpms low, leave the wg off so it doesn't spool up.

leave the wastegate ON so you dont melt everything plastic in your engine compartment.

that is because your wg will never see boost and will spool forever till you let go of the gas. to be safe, i would take out the spring out so it'll stay open all the time

Take off the damn wastegate. If you don't have a downpipe it doesn't matter anyways for melting **** in the engine bay. I drove my old turbo set up w/ out charge piping and I redlined it a couple times and the turbo was spitting oil all over. If you keep it low it might be fine. But I'd take off the wastegate just in case.

Did you mean dumptube? This whole thread has got me confused

Fastlude, are you going to get you downpipe or dumptube made? IT just says dp, If you are going to get downpipe made i wouldn't drive car up there without one.

I'd rather be safe and just tow it

I drove my car to the shop to have my primary charge pipe made, it'll be fine as long as you're VERY easy on the gas. I took all the little side street I could all the way to the shop doing like 35mph. It sure beats $75 and potential damage from a tow

man I over-revved a turbo like this before. I was racing and blew off a charge pipe; I didn't have time to fix it so i drove the car to school then to work then back home. Fixed it then, but the damage was already done. Be VERY careful. Don't put any load on the motor that would spin the turbine. and don't drive it anywhere but the shop ur going too.

Yeah but i think he's talking about also driving it up there without any kind downpipe... You definitely can't do that... Maybe with some sort of shorteded DP then when you get to the shop they can extend it... That's what I did with mine...

Thats what i think was happening, he was planning on driving with no piping or downpipe. Maybe some misinformation, but if thats the case then tow that **** to the shop.

Anyone ever think about putting a restrictor or cap on the pipe coming off of the compressor when driving without IC piping?

This shouldn't allow the turbo to overspin then.

I don't even see how the turbo would overspin at part throttle with no piping.

With piping at partial throttle the turbo isn't overspinning...and I can't imagine much restriction then.

If thats the case, don't drive it at all! get a race pipe made that will get u to the shop like 4u2nv did or tow it. better safe then sorry.

well i know how it can damage the turbo. i just installed my new turbo set up on my integra. No intercooler piping on it and i decided to start it up. I looked at the compressor blades and they slowly came to a stop. I was scratching my head thinking that it should be spinning just from the exhaust. The turbo is brand new and spins nice and smooth. I hooked up the IC piping and started it and checked it out. Everything was spinning fine due to the vacuum that was added to the compressor side. I wouldn't risk it unless that shop is very close to your house/car.

if you keep the rpms low and dont let the turbo ingest anything you will be fine aside from the carbon produced from the exhaust gas depositing on stuff in the engine bay.
