Default driving your turbo car w/out a dp?

ok so i got a custom setup and no one makes a dp for me, so i have to have one made. will it do any damage to drive from here to the shop, ~15 miles w/no dp?
i also have no intercooler pipeing, getting made at the same time.

what about no wastegate so it doesnt boost from the shop to the dyno, ~25 miles.

what would be the problems w/this.

thanks guys,

Vinny

fire in the hole haha jk

I wouldnt you have the turbo on but with no DP and no charge piping I would love to see you drive that it will be loud with no boost it all comes in time just wait. I hope you have a oil line running to it, if not well then you will see what kind of turbo is it get a diy piping kit I got mine from maxrev it is a bitch but it sould take about 30 mins with maybe a little bit of cuting depends on if you have ac you got to get it around that but it is just extra weight

So pretty much you will just be pulling off your headers, and putting on the turbo and manifold?

I don't think it would be a good idea unless you can confirm that the exhaust gases will not be hot enough to melt anything close to the turbo exhaust. You could buy a flange and have something easy welded up just so that the exhaust points downwards.

If you won't be running wastegate, you should at least cap the wg port.

And yeah keep the rpms as low as possible.

I drove without a downpipe for a week, while I was waiting for the piping to come it, with no problems There are a bunch of guys on HT who have done the same. Just don't do it for weeks or months, and you'll be fine

As far as the chargepiping goes, that does pose somewhat of a problem, as with too much throttle you can overspin the Turbo, since the compressor has no back pressure. To get around this just don't go heavy on the throttle until you get some charge piping on there. It will be absolutly fine, otherwise

I was wondering this same thing. I am having my dp custom made by a guy who works at muffler shop and I don't feel like paying to get it towed. I figure as long as I don't get on it the egts shouldn't go up to much and start melting stuff.

I thought I saw a picture on honda-tech of someone who did it. They completly nuked and melted their ac lines and part of the front of the car.

I think that pick was from running with no dump tube.

well in that case, shouldt a turbine with no dp be worse? I mean, the dp lets out exhaust constantly and a lot more. A wastegate tube will only let out gasses when it opens up.

you need to have these things aside from the DP. Your turbo will be spinning at an incredibly high speed...you will more than likely ruin your turbo. Turbos need a load on them to prevent them from spinning so fast, it'll ruin them.

wow, you're ignorant. the laod ocmes from the compressor, not exhaust backpressure. exhaust backpressure = bad

just be careful, hot exhaust + wiring harness = melted wires.

it will also turn your whole engine bay black if you drive it for _too_ long.

The gases coming off hte turbine will be alot cooler than the gases before the turbine because the heat of the gases is what helps drive the turbine. Since the wastegate is before the turbo, the gases are pretty hot. That's how that HT member burned right through his A/C lines. Plus he said his EGT's were really high too cause he was rich.

rich = lower egt's, cuz a richer mixture inhibits combustion
