does lifting the head from boost...

does this usually result in a warped head?

car did not overheat or get hot, nothing like that happened but it is pushing out a little steam through the breather when you bring up the rpms and a little oil also got pushed out around the base of the head on the one end.

vaccum still read good on the gauge and oil loss was VERY minimal, less than an 1/8 quart or so total. absolutely zero smoke or stream out of the exhaust so I am thinking it is not the rings or landings, although it idles like a wrx a little.

It may or may not have warped the head. That is usually a result of temperature. You probably did hurt the head gasket.

head gasket is toast I figured as well, oem one is on the way and will be installed (I replace it anytime I am taking off a head just for good measure)... also looking into some arp head studs.

this is the first I have had any problems like this what so ever, hoping it just stretched the bolts and did not hurt the block.

edit: Also I really hope it did not warp the head, I dont need or want more compression.

any other experiences or comments about lifting a head are welcomed!

I know I am not the first.

this is not 'head lift/sleeve shift/sleeve sink'. that manifests itself by pushing cold/warm coolant out the overflow bottle, spraying it everywhere!

its crankcase pressure. If its alot, it could be broken ringlands or pistons or rings.

are you running a catch can and hollowed out/removed pcv?

sup C-

shit ty man.`.. Ive got as little coolant out the bottle thing goin on when i really beat mine... but am holding off on the studs until i change to the built block. The fact that the smoke is coming out of the breather is what id be worried about. Compression check...leakdown?? Could still be the lands. Ive still got your number, ill hit you up.

Cool??

Curious about a couple things.....

I cant remember what kind of boost you are running or snail, but at 11 psi im lifting a little bit, just a smidge. 155k on the motor, no leaks dont burn oil....doesnt smoke, but once in a while after hard 1-2-3-4 gear boosting, water out of the bottle- just minor thgough but i am fairly + that it is the head "lifting"... No smoke out my breather or WRX putt putt though....

Thats no bueno

Re: (Weq)

compression tests good across the board and it does not blow any smoke or steam out of the exhaust... so thats why I am not thinking it is a ring, landing or sleeve.

setup is running a catch can.

got to run to work... will finish this reply on lunch.

Just get a machinist straight edge (less than $50 new) and a cheap set of feeler guages and check your head and block for warpage when you have the head off. I do this every time that I have the head off for any reason. Before I got a straight edge I used to take the head to a local machine shop that would check it for me for free, it only takes a few minutes to do.

Yeah give me a buzz after 6pm if you want to catch me after work sometime.

Not smoking out of the breather but there was a little steam coming out of it. Overflow for coolant did not fill up at all, in fact I lost a little it seems and that was it... it did not overheat or anything fortunately.
