do i need a girdle for ls-vtec turbo?????
ok well i bought a very cheap ls block which i think has been converted to run a vtec head but what i wanted to know was do i need a girdle did some searches and found nothing i was looking for. well the block is sleeved and has je pistons and some kind of rod cant see what brand they are but the rod bolts say arp eagle.
well if i was to need a girlde do i have to rehone the sleeves because someone said it would egg shape the cylinders. oh and i have a gsr oil pan thats tapped for turbo already and does any one have a gsr windage tray they wanna sell??? well any help would be appreciated.

no you dont need a girdle for that application unless you plan on reving it over 8200rpm which with a LS there is really no need but you can..... I had a friend who put a girdle on his B20 Vtec and it didnt do any good for it... the only way that it really works is if you get a shop to do all the proper clearences on it because no one will make one to fit 100% like all the clearences and what not but thats just my .02

WTF? The number one and four cylinder sleeves are cut on the outsides, like they are supposed to be in either the number two or three cylinder locations. Who sleeved that block? I've never seen that before. . . .
And is that the highest those pistons go? If it is, then something is drastically wrong with your block. . .

Well I'm no expert, but wouldn't that throw off the compression, like ALOT? PM earl, he builds engines. And when he built mine, he said the pistons stuck out of the bore like .0007" or something really small like that, and said that was perfect. Yours look really low, no where near flush with the top. . .

It looks like to me on the pistons that you might have LS rods with a GSR crank. There are about .037 difference between LS and GSR rods. Maybe that's why you have like a 10.5:1 comp. piston to offset the difference in the rods. If this is it then just be careful because it looks like they are sitting down about .030 and if you add a .040 head gasket because of a turbo then you are looking at .070 clearance and at that thickness is were detonation occurs. (between .060 to .120) I hope you've done your math on those clearances.

Re: do i need a girdle for ls-vtec turbo????? (Code Blue)
If installed properly, its not a bad idea. I kinda considerate as insurance.
But to answer your question....GSR girdle, windage tray, pickup, and pan. Make sure however does the machine work is knowledgeable.

so can i just use the windage tray and oil pickup from a gsr or no.
and about the erl girdle does it have to go to the machine shop too.
i heard from a local forum that the ge girdle needs no machine work just bolt on. can anyone else in here confirm that?
