Default Do I need to break in a 6 puck Spec clutch?

I did a search... some said yes, some said no.

It's a 6 puck spec stage 3 clutch with ceramic pads. It's going on my D16z6.

If not, i may install saturday and go to AMS for a little dyno time

Thanks

I guess if you consider breaking in, banging 4 gears down the track at 15psi then ya you need to break it in.

do regular disk clutches really need a break in either? My break in consisted of dropping the clutch at high rpms and making sure the tires spin. works great to this day.

that's the same clutch i threw in my d16z6 civic... good **** skittle... hows the beast runnin?

edit:
oh yeah, i broke mine in over a couple of days (slipped it progressivly harder) and it's been great. chatters though

sometimes pretty violently, but i think it's b/c all my mother mounts are shot? It seems like my drivetrain has (literally) a foot of play in it. My shifter moves 2" forward and back when it hit the gas then let off, I don't knwo what to do about that (motor mounts maybe?)

The clutch is great. how much did u pay? I got mine for $300

I had the same question when I first got my first 6 puck.
I asked the guys at the shop and ended up bringing a good question to all and we called ACT tech support i guess it was or the engineers there and we were told that they did not require a break in period

THnaks for all the responses guys. I actually went through The Clutch Depot to get this clutch. THey offer a 10% discount off of manufactuerer's price so i paid $270 with free shipping. AWESOME SERVICE

To "The Clutch Depot"!!!

**** i also bought an ACT lightweight flywheel. Ill prolly take it ez the first 100 miles just to be on the safe side with the flywheel. Or do you think the flywheel will require more breakin?

THanks again for all of the responses!

Also the turbo's running great! Can't wait to get the DP repaired FRI and then some street tuning. THen sunday it's Dyno time (if all goes well with the clutch/flywheel installation). Im gonna see how well my fluke voltmeter does compared to the wideband. Should be interesting.....

flywheel doesn't need break in.

Just slap it in and power shift

Spec told me to put 100 city miles on my car.. Basically stop and go to break it in. I have the four puck stage 3 in my GSR. I really like it btw. I got the one with the sprug hub, not sure if all the stage three have that.

One word of advice when driving it.. Make sure you load the clutch before launching. Otherwise its gonna wanna chatter pretty bad.

I'm looking now at "The Clutch Depot" ( btw for linking us), now somebody tell me, are these "Spec" Clutches any good?

I'm looking at a clutch for my GS-R, 300whp max, and I've had great success with ACT's in the past. I priced a 6-puck ACT w/ Xtreme PP for $470.25, but I also saw a Spec clutch, stage 3 4-puck for $386 which seems like a great deal.. except I've never heard of these clutches so.... any input from those who've used it?

Hrrm. My Clutchmasters stageIV clutch came with a notice that there is a 500 mile break-in period. I wasnt all that nice to it at the first 500 miles, but it feels real good right now and come friday I will be taking it to the track and will try some 11 sec times with my 24.5" slicks. It has over 650 miles on it now.

You need to break in sprung disc clutches to heat treat the springs on the disc.
