Disturbing pictures of my copper head gasket
This is an r-ideal 2mm copper gasket which is supplied with fmax's kit. The problem is the gasket is not cut the same as the oem/block. The oil AND water ports are MUCH smaller. This may very well be the issue behind my overheating problem I was having. first, here is a pic of the block deck for reference:
The copper gasket, notice the burn marks on it:
And finally both gaskets on top of each other. I used the copper gasket with the oem metal outsides hylomared to it. I adjusted the contrast so you can see the different gaskets.
Very disturbing indeed.....

what a bunch of crap!!!!
i dont care if it flows the same or not! most aftermarket parts FAIL to meet OEM standards, and this is a pretty sad case.

fmax copper head gaskets suck... we installed one on a Gsr, didnt fit right... and squirted oil all over the firewall and the back of the motor.

you can... but again, it's copper, so its pretty soft... and it's pretty thick. so i wouldnt recommend cutting it.

Yeah I will not even bother cutting it. I've since changed my compresson the right way.

I used one of those copper headgaskets once on a quick rebuild, looked just like that. Soon as the motor started up and gave it some gas, oil started leaking from the headgasket area. The holes are not lined up nearly as good as OEM headgaskets and i had to modify the dowel pin holes a little to get them to fit.

I would love to see pics of others' copper gaskets. I'd really like to see the inline pro version.

Try cometic gaskets....they may have a thick version for your application. At SEMA they had thick B-series stuff there. BTW copper head gaskets need a sealant on them so they do not leak. Permatex Copper Seal spray works well......But you are right about the small coolant holes...

except for the oil drains being small, it looks similar to stock.
the middle layer of the stock gasket has small holes like that as well.
also the head has small holes too.
I am speaking of B series, but H should be similar, i got an h22a out in the garage
i'll check it later

Thanks for sharing that with us, ill sure as hell stay away from those headgaskets. Are you sleeves copper o-ringed? I think thats what i see... Also, make sure you check the deck of your block and head to make sure you didnt warp anything while you had your overheating problems.
