Direct Port Nitrous Questions
hey im going to be installing a nitrous system on my b20 vtec
Spec's
85mm sleeved block
eagle rods
aries 10:8:1
stock head
310cc
wideband
im here to ask what some of you have done and your setups! im leaning more towards the direct port setup more than a single fogger i will be running a 75 to start it up then to a 100 and max 125. i know the basics thats needed a FPR FP Injectors, and some sort of ignition system and a wideband to be safe. i am curious to here what you guys are running for a ignition system! i have been researching over a month on nitrous and all the components! i would like a ignition in which i could retard the timing i have looked in to msd dig6 crane mallory ect. i will have the nitrous hooked up to a window switch! im trying to do everything right leave nothing out and make sure its done right this will be a daily drivin car. money it not a problem so say but i dont want to break the bank i want the best and relaible setup for the money i can get! i leave in a montana where tuning things is a little bit harder lol. i was wondering what you guys are running for nitrous control? i have seen hondata is a popular chioce which really isnt a option for me! i will be leaving the wideband in my car at all times to be sure b/c at this piont i need help on the tuning part of it which is the biggest part of having a good set up that lasts i aslso will be talking to mtber(john vega) about the tuning part as if he can do a chip with timing retard! i really don't think thats the best route though i really need some opinions and setups if there is anything i left out please let me know your help is much appreicated

You should consider using an ems such as ectune, hondata, neptune that will allow you to switch between maps on the fly & will output a signal to trigger a relay to allow your nitrous fogger(s) to spray etc.
(Nitrous control)
You should also consult a local tuner to tune the system.

I personally use an MSD 6al with an MSD 3 stage retard than pulls out your desired amount of timing the instant the nitrous solenoids open.
This is the all motor forum though and you would probably get more responce in the FI section where it belongs.

Seriously dude? I'm sorry to say, but there really is no "good" way to set up what you have without having a tuner tune the system. I'm running a b16 same compression as you and a little more mods, and am running direct port 150 shot. It has not yet been hooked up because I WILL NOT toast a motor because I was too impatient to get it tuned. I use a tuning system called Neptune and there's a GREAT tuner, Joe, at locashracing.com who tunes for me. Only problem is he's in AZ, with me. As for ignition, a stock Honda ignition should do just fine for you. I know guys with 400 hp turbo b series cars with stock ignitions. I was going to go MSD digital 6 to run my nitrous but EVERYONE i knew who had used it said that Honda's eat **** on MSD ignitions and they took them back off. that's the best that I can tell you. Joe tunes by using the ecu to engage the nitrous, only after a set of parameters have been met and you have armed the system. In other words, VERY safe way to go. Hope that helped out a little. Oh, and go direct port. You've come this far, no sense in half assing it into the intake tube you know?

You will not have good luck with just stock ignition. You will need some kind of ignition box; ie MSD, Crane... Nitrous needs alot more spark and fuel then a turbo with the same power.. My car on anything over a 125shot a 255lph Walbro couldnt keep up with the amount of fuel that I needed.
Widebands are not good tuning tools for a nitrous car. Nitrous will give you false readings on the wideband..... I tune nitrous cars with an EGT gauge and it works alot better then a wideband ever will.
I ran 3 kits on my car and I had arming switchs and a full throttle switch.

Re: (imptricer)
what brand of nitrous system were you looking at? I know that Zex systems are very safe and have a system that tunes the amount of fuel being shot into the motor with the nitrous according to the bottle pressure of the nitrous. much less chance of going rich as the pressure drops with use or lean on a hot day.
