Different Blow off valves
Right now i have a 1st Gen DSM bov on my turbo set-up. Im running about 9.5psi and the bov flutters when it blows off. My question is with the Greddy type-rs bov being almost identical to the dsmn bov, will the greddy flutter as well or will it just do a one burst blow off? Is it the design (like internals) of the bov that makes it flutter? Final question, anyone have a turbo xs h-rfl bov, might think about getn that one.
Thanks
Thanks

I'm seeing lots of people say they have flutter issues with a 1st gen dsm. Where is your vacuum source? I have yet to personally see a 1st gen bov fail.

Re: Different Blow off valves (xtrec02)
I dont think its failing at all, its jus that the blow off is a flutter instead of one burst. My motor is a jdm b16 so i just used one of the vaccum sources in the intake manifold from something i didnt need on there, so its a direct source from the IM.

Re: Different Blow off valves (RacerXI)
So the fluttering blow off for the dsm bov isnt normal? it should be a whoosh? lol
Just use oil or somethin and put it on the stem inside the bov?

are you sure it isnt compressor surge? Mine only fluttered when I had the vac source on the nipple after the TB, I hooked it to one of the nipples on the intake mani before the TB and it gave a nice "woosh"

Re: Different Blow off valves (InJ3cted)
ill have to look for a vaccum source before the tb. i dont kno off hand where i can find one because isnt it the tb then the intake manifold? like where where i find a vaccum source before the tb?
Do any bovs flutter, or is that definately compressor surge?

flutter=surge. the valve just isn't opening fast enough.
try an oem MR2 valve. they react faster than any aftermarket and physically cannot leak, since boost pressure pushes the piston shut. it's the valve that HKS based their SSQ design on. they usually run $45-50 used.

Re: Different Blow off valves (filthy scarecrow)
so my 9.5 psi isnt enough to open a dsm bov? Would tryn another vaccum source possibly work?
Or could my dsm bov be bad?

Re: Different Blow off valves (EK k kay)
f***n a, im at school and like no money, is there a slightest chance that changing to a different vaccum source will fix the problem?
Im pretty sure it is a good vaccum source now, but IF its not a good one, as if there was no vaccum at all, could having the bov connected to no source cause surge?

If you don't connect it to a vacuum source then you will surge the turbo which is no good. Lube it up and see how it goes. You can a new one for like $20 nowadays.
