Did you have to replace bearings when you replaced your rods/pistons?
Did you have to replace the rod and crank bearings when you replaced your rods/pistons? Or did you keep the stock ones?
I'm about to replace my rods/pistons and my mechanic told me that I need new bearings (he didn't look at the engine yet).
Also, does it make any difference if I BLEW my engine (probaly a killed piston)? Would I need new bearings in that case?
Thanks!!

u defineately need rod bearings... the sizes wont be the same and while ur in there u might as well change the mains as well... no point in skimping out and not changing them... it might come back and haunt u in the future

Is it because I blew the engine, or do you need them anytime you put in new pistons/rods?

Why would you skimp on the bearings if you are paying for the pistons and rods? just get new bearings also.

I wanted to skimp because it's like another $100 - $150 bucks which I will have to borrow...
Will my mechanic know which clearances of he bearings to get? The engine has to be apart by then, right? Or, is that something I can buy myself knowing which rods I'm getting?

Your mechanice will more then likely plastigauge the existing bearings and find out which size bearings he will need.

$100?
Jeez!
Each bearing half is only like $1.75/each! Multiply that by eight, and you have $14 in Honda OEM bearings! And it's not like there's that much additional labor since it's all gonna be apart anyway...
Sigh... shady mechanics...

i don't know about that.... bearings for my H are about $8 each from majestic (as cheap as it gets for OEM parts)

Get new bearings. If you don't have the money then don't start in the project in the first place.

Ah yes, I forgot to mention, those aforementioned prices are for the D-series motors and not for the B-series or the H-series. I recall the Honda guy giving me a bearing for the H22 motor for like $8/ea, so yeah, those could be the going rate for the twin-cam motors.
