Decent turbo size for sohc?
Sup folks. I've got a friend with a 89 crx si, bunch of miles. So we're swappin it out and putting a z6 in her car and plan to boost it. Theres a auto 2nd gen Dsm at the junkyard we're goin to pull the turbo from tommorow. I think its a td05-h, but i'm not sure i keep gettin conflicting search results, some say its a t25. Would this be a decent sized turbo for her sohc? We're not lookin for huge hp numbers, maybe like 150 whp. Probably 5-7psi, just to make the car a lil more fun. Any and all opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

yea its a 14b thats a t25. The only problem with those dsm turbos is that you cant clock them, the way its positioned in the eclipse thats the way you have to put it in your honda.

I say spend the extra money on 3 important things and you can cheap-o the rest.
1.The turbo
2.The fuel system
3.Oil lines.
go for a new turbo that you know is in good condition. you def. don't want an internal WG junkyard turbo that s gonna creep on you.

I say go for it...
Just make sure to inspect the turbo for shaft play and seal leakage before you hand your money over... if the turbo is in good shape then it will work for your goals...
If fast spool and 150-170hp is what you are looking for than the DSM turbo will work for you
If the turbo has shaft play find out about getting it rebuilt or just buy a new one instead, which ever is cheaper...

Huh? 14b is in the first gen dsm, t25 is in the 2nd gens. But, i wasnt sure if the autos had t25's so i think u answered my question.
Yea the whole purpose of this is to build a cheap home mader turbo setup. I already have all my info about fuel management and oil lines because i'm in the process of building a kit for myself. I figure that a t25 should be a decent turbo to offer some more fun down low, i know they die out up top, but she isnt the type of girl that needs to go 100 on a regular basis. And yea, boost creep was my only worry with this turbo, but it'll probably get a rebuild when we get it anyway. Thanks again folks.

You can clock the dsm t25. The only problem is you have to reposition the wastegate actuator.

2nd gen dsms have the small t-25 turbo. if u really wanna go for a junkyard turbo.. try to get the 14b . thats out of the 1st gen dsms. get a set of DSM injectors (450s) and run uberdata.
ive a z6 with a 14b and uberdata. running beerbongs bin. its KICK ***. @ 5psi with a slipping cluth i gave two car lengths to a mazda speed RX-8
did a 14.9 at the quarter mile.. dont ve access to a dyno so no numbers
the 14b is a great turbo.. spools around 4K and holds strong all the way upto redline

My T3 60 spools at 3500 with 10psi and holds all the way to redline. I do have a 2.5" DP to a 3" exhaust which helps spool time.

Re: Decent turbo size for sohc? (TurboSedan)
Around me, the 14b's are harder to come by in junkyards. The only reason that we have a shot at this turbo is because the car just got to the junkyard and noones noticed it yet. So if it is a t25, we're definately gonna try to get it.
My buddy has a 14b on his mini-me crx, spools around 3500, and pulls pretty hard.
I've got a .42.48 airesearch t3 that I'm gonna fab up on mine. I been tryin to figure out how big that is in comparison to the 14b, some say larger some say just barely smaller. I have no clue, but i think it'll be fun either way.

Re: Decent turbo size for sohc? (LoStMyBoOst)
For your power goals t25 will do just fine. But if you can find 14b or t3 turbo i'd say go with that. Also lots of people dont know that t25's flow only 250cfm's where 14b's flow 450cfm. Just my 02
