How does the cooling of the block stack up to a stock open deck design?

If this a good block for street use?

Also, a price with sleeves would be awesome.

Hey Tom, what sleeves are used in your blocks??
The blocks have Darton ductile iron sleeves

As far as cooling:

Stock Honda blocks have an open deck design because it is easier/more cost effective to manufacture, not for cooling. However the Dart/Payn block has larger water jackets for cooling

The standard deck height 81.5mm bore blocks have been shipping for a couple of weeks filling backorders, the 84.5mm standard deck and tall deck will be shipping just after the first of the year.

This is not a sleeved block, (but Payn can have that done also) It is a brand new casting from Dart. All of the info can be found here.

Onoe more question.

What is needed to complete this block?

I can see:
Crank (Can you use stock b-series crank?)
Pistons (Any 81.5mm bore b-series piston?)
Rods (normal rods? what specs? b18c rods?)
Barings
Oil Pan & Gasket (Can you use stock?)
What else would you need to get this block running?

Sorry for all the questions.

do you really need oil squirters when using forged pistons?

i was under the assumption the reason they were there is because the stock pistons are cast...

anyone (eg. payntech)?

Sorry for all the questions.

You can use all stock parts to complete the build if you want to. Any B18/B20 rods will work as well as any 81.5mm+ pistons, the block can be bored and honed to accept larger pistons IE: 82 83 84 85. You will need to run a non-B18c windage tray and oil pump pick-up.

The other items needed to complete the short block that aren't on your list are: Oil squirters, oil pump, timming belt tensioner, waterpump and timing belt, all sourced from a GSR or Type R.


From RPM9100:

The girdle is not needed unless you are producing large HP #s 1000hp or 40-50 lbs of boost on alcohol. We can supply a Z-10 LS/B20 girdle at the customers request.

The block is made form 355 T6 virgin alloy, the material alone is 4x stronger than the material Honda uses on the stock block. The main caps are not only dowled like the stock block but also side registered.

Oil squirters are sourced from a GSR or ITR, because they are slighlty offset unlike the B16a

Looks great! I can't wait to hear the dragstrip war stories on this one... seems like every new part goes through hell the first year or two. This person swearing it's gods gift to Honda-Kind, this person swearing that their stock block is stronger <YEAH, whatever>. I can't wait til I can afford to wrap my grubby little hands around one in my little hatchie.
