Post D16z6 vitara necessary to port oil pump???

okay i got my enigne rebuild etc parts and a ready oem oil pump.
i didn't port the oil pump is it necessary if i have to port it?
the motor will be for daily driven breakin in and then i will turbo it,
is it necessary to port it i didn't port it.

the specs on the crank/rods/mains are okay clearances etc close to oem specs.
i will be using 5w30 also.

NEVER heard of having to port a Z6 oil pump. It's the Y8s that you have to worry about.

ok cool i geuss i am ok then, but if turbo on and if i put the t inline with the oil pressure to my feed line for turbo. will it cause anything pressure issues?

I would at least gasket match the pickup and block inlet

If there's bad casting marks smoothing them out would be a good idea

The y8s reak weakness isn't the pump, it's the oiling galleys in the crank. I spun every bearing and even the cam on my bone stock y8 and I'm not 100% clear on why. My oil pump did fail causing the issue but I've heard stories of other y8s that lost bearings with good oil pressure

P.S. parting out a y8 who wants what lol

So very true. Whenever I rebuild a single cam I be sure to source a good z6 crank.

Definetely go with a Z6/A6 crank

As for porting the pump, I think its a great idea and can be done in about 2 hours taking your time.

I made a DIY on D-series.org with good pictures, there is ALOT of material that can be ported to improve flow and very sharp corners that can be smoothed and blended

I recomend against shimming the spring though, even porting is kind of overkill if youre bearings are sized right, but more oil flow cant hurt anything.

Port it!

i have a y8 in my shed with a spun rod bearing. 1 old lady owner and 140k miles. honda really dropped the ball on those engines...

the z6 vitara will be just fine with the oem pump unported. i put lots of miles on my old vitara motor no oil issues

Like people above said, the y7/y8 are the motors that have the weak crank design (one oiling hole per journal versus two on the z6 and I believe the a6). You should be fine leaving the z6 one stock, I have a y7 block and got the Endyn ported and shimmed pump in addition to having the crank micropolished and the oiling holes chamfered.

I never ported my Z6 oil pump, but I did shim it. Never had a problem.. Check your oil pressure after starting it with the turbo hooked up. If its low shim it and bring it up a little, Dont try and have lke 200 psi tho lol.

The thing that I still don't get is that I have a d16y8 all stock with just injectors done to it and fuel pump and a tune and ran& daily it for the past four years with 7psi and haven't had a problem but the other issue is that I'm rebuilding a d15b7 with a d16y8 head but what I've been hearing is that the d15b7 cranks are no good due to not enough oil getting to the crank and spinning the bearing but would there be a way to upgrade or something to get enough oil to the crank without switching to a z6? Help??
