D16Z6: Choosing the Right Turbo
Hey Guys,
This is my first post in this forum. Well I've decided to turbo a D16Z6 for my daily driver eh2. My goals are as follows: 200-220whp, 190-200wtq on a comfortably reliable stock Z6, boosting between 9-10 psi.
Now, I'm new to everything forced induction so nobody tell me to do more research or search because, yes I know I need many more hours of both before I even think about purchasing parts or attempting the installation myself. But, I was wondering, what part is the foundation that you base the rest of the setup on? Is it the turbo itself? If so, which one would be good for my application? I was thinking either the T3 60 trim .48/.60 or the 14b. I'd like it to spool quickly (around 3000-3500rpms), but I don't want to sacrifice a little top end power near redline, so I'm thinking T3.
So when you guys decide to build a custom kit, how do you do it? Choose a turbo, then go from there? I've laid out my goals. Point me in the right direction.
Thanks for your help,
George

Re: D16Z6: Choosing the Right Turbo (litterbox)
Bump, funny how you just posted this because I was just to post one as well for my stock D16Y7. I'm shooting for the exact same HP and same spool time. I had a greddy kit then apexi, now its time to go even faster.
After some research in here and in turbod16, I've narrowed down my choices to:
T3 50 trim .48 ar
T3 60 trim .48 ar http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...=WD1V
T3 super 60 .48 ar http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...=WD1V
Sorry for jacking your thread but I'm hoping that when I get my answers that you would too besides I dont want to start another thread with basically the same questions as you.
The super 60 is only 50 bucks more than the regular 60 trim. I read that the super 60 is pretty much the same as the 60 trim except that it doesn't have the step on the turbo inlet like the 60 trim does. Also I've also read that the super 60 trim has a t4 wheel. Does this super 60 spool faster than the regular 60 trim/does the t4 wheel in the super 60 have a heavier rotational mass than the one on the t3 60 trim?
Would the 50 trim spool faster than both the 60 trim and still put out jsut as much power as the 2 since they both have the same a/r?

Re: D16Z6: Choosing the Right Turbo (BrokeAssPinoy)
Does anyone have any experience with the seller on ebay you linked us to (seller: conceptillusions). The prices look decent.
By the way, on my D16Y8, I plan to go with the .60/.48. It should be good for a stock setup, and still rip all the way to redline when forced internals are dropped in.

cool its nice for you to drop in, I've been checkin your posts lately too and based on what I've read most SOHC guys here are going with the t3 60 trim .48. I wonder how the super trim is though since its only 50 bucks more. I'm planning of using the lovefab ac minime, same one you have, I believe, did you have to move the ac fan in front?
Keep postin guys help me and the original creator out haha

Either the 60 trim or the 14b would be great for your setup. A plus about the 14b is that its alot cheaper.
The over quality of your turbo kit boils down to the quality of your engine management.

Re: D16Z6: Choosing the Right Turbo (MooreBoost)
well i considered a 14b before but you see I don't want anything that spools earlier than 3200-3500 since I'll be driving this car in the city. The t3 60 trim .48 is just what i need. However I really want to know what difference it would make if I get the super 60 over the regular 60 trim. I mean theyre only 50 bucks apart o the links I posted above. Refer to previous posts for questions.
