Default D16Y8 (and Z6) Turbo owners

Hi all I'm trying to put together a custom turbo kit for my 2k ex civic. So far for the heart of the setup I plan using a T3 turbo and manifold that I'm getting from a friend. Just want to know what other peoples setups were and what the results were, etc. I live in the Pembroke Pines area if any of you are from South Florida, but I go to school in Tampa @ USF also. Anyone with any recommendations (i.e. brands of parts, places to do piping, etc) be free to share them.

well since you are going custom, the piping will have to be custom.. that's all IC piping, intake piping, and downpipe. You should get the Greddy Type S BOV.. its quite nice.. but if you want the "cheap turbo system" then get the Turbo XS BOV. I suggest getting a TiAL wastegate.. but if you can find a used Deltagate, go for it and save money for the TiAL. What is your fuel system gonna be? Most people use FMU's with an inline pump.. which I hate, but it seems to work for the majority. You can get a Vortech FMU (12:1 if you r using stock injectors) with a Walbro (read: cheap) inline pump. Get a Missing Link to bypass boost signals to the MAP.. keeps that pesky CEL away. Set your timing back just a tad and you should be able to boost 6psi safely.. depending on the trim of that T3.

Thanks for the reply. So far I planned on the Greddy Type-S BOV. The T3 turbo I'm getting has an internal wastegate so external ones aren't an issue. For my fuel system, I'm planning on using a setup my friend is going to try. The basics of the setup I got from a post on Honda-Tech. It was the one about using the V-AFC to be a boost variable fuel controller... or something of that nature. My friend is going to try it out on his car as soon as it's up and running again. If I don't go that route... I'll just do the FMU & inline pump deal. I was thinking about saving for a Hondata stage 2b, but because my car is an obd2 (2000 civic) I would have to pay for the 2b, a p28 ecu, obd2->obd1 harness and then all the tuning which would add up to a lot. What do you recommend for fuel a system?

yep..i agree. Although only 6psi? I was running stock timing at 12psi on pump gas.

You can get pre-done piping. My kit is custom though i ended up using f-max piping and an f-max spec spearco intercooler but it all just bolted right on and the fit finish is awesome. And it wasnt much more then having *good* custom piping made.

6psi depending on the size of the turbo ! If his turbo is a T3-Super 60, I doubt he can run 12psi on a stock motor.. heh.. unless he likes clouds of smoke from his engine bay. Btw, Liam, what size turbo were you running?

My favorite fuel systems (besides standalone) would be additional injectors. Lots of people hate the MF2 setup, but I've had no experiences with them. I do, however, like SDS's EIC. I've seen it work marvelously on many cars and it is what I'll be using when I get started on my project.

Hey i'm from S. Miami. My friend's GSR was dyno'd there (SFP). http://www.senekagsr.homestead.com/index.html

Ya, your 15g is a smallish turbo.. great for higher boosts and quick spools! It must be a killer on the street.

Hmm, was that sarcasim? Quick spools yea, high boost... yea right! This thing has a hard enough time getting out of it's own way past 10psi lol! It's all good, it'll suit me til next year when I'd like to rebuild the motor completley for boost and run a T3 with the aid of an SFP manifold... till then, my mini hairdryer will just have to do See yu guys at Moroso, or maybe BestBuy if you deicide to head out there.

lol... that's funny...cause while i got the email that u replied to my post... i was on SFP's web site browsin around. I was thinking about going to SFP just for the piping though. I'm on a tight budget and I'm just peicing **** together as i get money or come across good deals. Hell... i wouldn't have sold my zex kit if I didn't come across this turbo deal. Oh well nitrous was fun while it lasted time to move on to the real FI stuff . Hey VTC_CiViC, tell me a little bit more about your setup. How does it perform, etc.

Civic, drop me a line at VTCCiViC@aol.com. Rob, lol, I go to that B&N all the time. Had like 3 friend's who worked at that BestBuy too (Jasen, Jarred and Mario), all got fired though Anyways the hangout is what i'm talking about. Best Buy on bird. next to the Palmetto, every Tues. and Thurs. at like 10pm. Sucks though cause MDPD broke it up last couple times I was there so.. I just poke my nose in quickly every now and again.

I was running a t3/t4 with a small .48 a/r and 53 trim wheel. It flows much like a mitsubishi 20g. Its still a little large for the d-series motor but the topend is just insane. It would be a nice turbo on a b16a. And i was running 12-13psi on the stock block with pump gas, and 15psi at the track with 104 octane. As long as the fuel/timing is correct you can get alot of power outa it.

I currently use a mf2 erl system and have really liked it. Once i got it tuned correctly it is just amazing and the car drives so very nice. I have boosted up to 18psi with this setup without problems. (not a stock motor) But you do have to know how to use it and tune it correctly if not it runs like ****.

What's a 53 trim? Never heard of it. Is it a T04E? Maybe you mean a 54 trim? That is crazy that you ran so much psi with that large of a turbo.. lucky it didn't blow

Whoops..you are correct. Its a 54 trim..53 was a typo. Its a t04e yes. You would be surprised how much boost the d-series motors can hold before problems come up. They are really strong little engines!
