d16y8 or b18b1...which is best for garrett "super 60"?
Hey dudes, wondering where to go withy build here. I was sure I wanted to build a d16y8 turbo with 300-350whp, daily driver. I did plenty of hw, and since y8s are cheaper to come by, I started planning out my build. Ended up buying a garrett t3 60 trim .48ar turbo from goautoworks for some quick spool for my single. Just as it happens, I got a free bare ls block from my buddy. Now im doubting myself...So you can see where im going with this... Few questions:
Will this turbo be too small with a b18 to make any more power/how much power would be possible for a basic built bottom end, cams turbo build if I go this route?
I guess Im really just wondering whats the best method to do this, wether or not I should drop the single for the b18. (Wanted 75.5 vitaras/custom rods for 8.5.1 comp with a bisi stage 2 cam, s2 mani, for the single tuned on chrome). I know its more displacement, im just wondering if I really will see that much more power. Thanks!

Actually, you saved yourself some trouble going LS. Either way, the super 60 is a really fun 250-300 whp little monster. 350whp? Pushing it.. I mean REALLY pushing boost to get 350whp.. And you gotta do it with the .63A/R housing, that .48a/r will choke like Eminem in the first rap battle in "8 mile".

Yeah I saw people getting 300 with stock cams, I was hoping the bisi cam would push me a bit over that. Honestly I think id be fine with 300...but more the better lol how soon would I see boost on an ls with a .63 housing? Thats also someethi g very important to me, I saw dynos with people starting to build boost around 3500 with similar y8 builds

You're kinda doing this backwards
You pick the right turbo for your motor and power goals. Not the motor around the turbo

Well, thats the issue. I wanted to build my y8 to get 350whp and quick spool, so I got this garrett turbo. My question is wether the b18 is a better motor for this turbo.

Hell sell the turbo to the matthewmizzel guy in the is this right thread. That turbo would be perfect for what he wants. Then take the money and buy a turbo to suit whatever motor and power level you decide

^^
Agreed. The turbonetics version would be better then the garrett just because of output.
If I remember correctly, and dont quote me on it, but I think the .42/.48 was the largerst housing optons for a factory Garrett Super 60.
Of course you should change the rods on the Y8 and port the oil pump for those numbers. Alot of people do the Vitara pitson option which brings it down to 7.7:1 ish. Personally i think a 9.2:1 would be ideal for quicker throttle resonse and a little better mpg's
The B18b would also benefit with new ARP rod bolts, resized rods, and might as well de glaze the walls and replace the rings while your at it.
Then it would be able to handle 300.
