i think the mains are different sized... i know the rods are the same.. i am just not real sure about the mains.. i dont think the Y7 uses a main girdle like the Y8...

if you have both of the cranks, just get both of them miked (sp?) and that will tell you the difference in them...

I believe he is right. The Y8 blocks use the girdle and the Y7 cranks do not. The rod length is the same, i have personally looked at the rod sets next to each other. You may want to find out the stroke on each of those engines to double check.

If you look up part numbers for aftermarket pistons I believe they are the same. Other than the girdle and the oil pan, they seem to be indentical. I don't know about the mains, but I would think they would be the same.

The parts fiche at hondaautomotiveparts.com shows that the D16Y7 and D16Y8 both use a main cap girdle.

Strange, when my friend and i stripped down his y7 it didnt have a girdle. I might be mistaking the y7 for another d-series engine though. I am not completely up to par on d knowledge.

Don't feel bad...I've had my oil pan off 4 or 5 times on my Y7 and I can't remember either
