Default D16y7/8 head work for 8.5k-9k rev on boost?

what kind of head work would you think is necessary for safely rev the y7/y8 to 8.5k-9k? the reason i'm asking this is I'm in precess preparing my D16y7_VTEC for boost -- maximizing that lil motor's potential any commentary are appreciated.

defenently new dual springs and retainers, possible stainless valves would be all you really need. The porting would be a plus but not necisary to rev that high due to turbo. That is going to take a weeeee bit of bottom end building though.

Just take that money and buy a B16 ...all joking aside, it can be done, I ran my stock valvetrain/block zc with huge cams up to 8200 for 2 years, then i missed a gear and it it 9200 and that wa the end of that...

bottom end building though.
thanks for the reply, i'm already planned on bottom-end rebuilt.

my 99si already has the b16; it would be more fun building the d16 for 250hp-300hp since it come w/ my ek hatch. so why not start w/ what you already have.

According to a post yesterday the eg heads were better...ya got a hatch so that y7 motor is gonna suck hard unless you pour like 5 motor swaps worth of money into it

I'm thinking best SOHC route for you...
D16Y7 bottom since they're all pretty much the same and you already have one.
DZ16 bla bla head
D16Y8 intake manifold

Hog out those runners, 3 or even 5 angle valve job, bronze guides, dual springs, etc.

I had a pretty good port job on my Y8 head/intake that I used on my Y7 block and made 206/184 @ 9psi

Why 5 motor swaps worth of money???? I hope you're being sarcastic, that is like $10,000+

hahah that's definately sarcastic. i know it would be a cost effective project.
btw! i forgot to mentioned: the y7 is currently in the car, but i have another longblock w/ a y8 vtec head + y8 intake manifold. all i need is valvetrain upgrades.
perhaps, titanium retainers, stainless steel valves; and higher quality springs. anyone has insight for a particular brand>>>??

I plan on running a d16z6 right now that i am building to around 8~8.5K. I am using supertech ss valves, ef1.com s22 cam and ef1.com titanium retainers and new OEM valve springs. Rocket told me that the OEM valve springs were plenty stiff to rev the engine up to 8~8.5K with the s22 cam.

Not sarcastic at all if you plan on making any decent power with a Y7 head. Maybe it would perform well at 40 PSI

Decent power can be made with a y7 head actually, but not as well as the Y8 head that he said he was using on his y7 block.

thanks guys; all your replies are informative. the y8 head definately has better flow than the y7 head. how different are the b-series valvetrain springs compare to the d-series? it would be great if it's interchangeable.
