D16 guys and other turbo experts. Help finalize my selection!
Ok guys I've been trying to learn more and more about reading compressor maps, and figuring out what all the A/R numbers mean, the trim levels, and wheel stages, but i just dont have it down, yet.
My spare block is just dying to be sleeved, and I have my CP pistons (9:1), eagle rods, and ACL bearings installed as well as well as my hondata s200b thats collecting dust.
I want a good 300+ hp at the track (will be low boost on the street) out of it or maybe i should put it like this: I want it the ABSOLUTE most amount of power i can get out of a t3/t04e turbo at the track WITHOUT raising my redline! I also want to hit FULL BOOST around a good 4000-4500 rpms.
If there's any compressor map experts out there that could help me pick the right one out, that'd be great! Or just someone who has experience with a certain size turbo that could give me some specs, would be awesome too.
If you guys need anymore info from me, just ask.
I've tried asking other people, but i just can't get a clear choice of which turbo i should go with. Maybe i shouldn't even go with a t3/to4e??
Please help me out guys!
Thanks for your time

Looks like the T04E in a 46 trim at about 18psi would work well for you. I calculated it to reach full boost at about 4500rpm, but that may be off. I did the work here: http://www.turbofast.com.au/turbomap.html

They loaded for me, I don't know what could be wrong. Maybe your javascripting isn't working right.

I was planning on using a T3/T04E with a .63 A/R stg 3 turbine and a .60 A/R 60 trim compressor on my D16, but then I was also planning on reving to around 8k and looking for 400whp +/-

This is CivicRyda2k/Marc typing:
Dave is a mad man. hehe j/k. I'm aiming for the same goals you are and I'm going to be using pretty much the same setup minus sleeving. I have a t3/t04e 46 trim i got from liam821 that i will be using.
BTW Dave, I'm at Yaniel's house if I don't go to the meet i'll leave the GE thingy with him to give you.

The best turbo that I can see right now for you, is a precision SC50 with a .63ar turbine. It will have full boost right around where you want it, but it will really depend on what supporting equipment you have (IE, manifold, dp, exahust, boost ctrl, ect..).
The 50 trim T4 compressor has by far the best efficency for low and high boost, and it will flow enough air for over 400hp.
Talk to Arturbo for more info/ordering.

No you didn't, but naturally, the next bigger turbo from a 60 trim T3/TO4E is a 60-1.
Your making it seem like a 60 trim T3/TO4E is too small for you, thats all.
Civtek...
A SC50 will be perfect for you. If you would like under 300whp, and a little quicker spool, go with the .48 turbine. This is what most D series should go with if running under 300hp.

My goals as soon as the block comes back from being sleeved. I have the same turbo you just stated already on my car. Hits hard at the top that is for sure!!

Re: D16 guys and other turbo experts. Help finalize my selection! (VTC_CiViC)
Hmm, so maybe the SC50 eh?
I was looking at piecing together my kit anyway with a precision turbo. I was actually looking at i think the SC44 60 trim .48 A/R 69 turbine trim... Is that too big with a stock redline?
Dave, what do you plan on doing to the head to rev up to 8K? Just curious. I may decide to do some head work later on, but right away, i just want to get my setup going, and then worry about the head later if i plan on boosting even more.
Thanks for the help so far guys!

Here is BoostedED9's dyno @ 16 psi...
He is using a SC50 w/ .63a/r.
Here made a post here.. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=431917
Here is his dyno sheet.
Looking at his dyno.. Starts boost bout 4600-4700rpm seems to get full boost @ 5300-5400 rpm.. (Am I correct on this?? )
Hope this helps

Hey thanks for the link and pict.
Maybe i should go with the SC50. I think the SC44 may have too much lag.. It looks like he's got plenty the way it is

Re: D16 guys and other turbo experts. Help finalize my selection! (ill_take_one)
The A/R of the turbo (turbine side) will play the roll of the "lag"
From talking w/ various people they sugguest the .48a/r for the D16 due to the head flow and displacement.
The compresssor trim (ex: 50trim, 57trim, 60 trim etc) are what are used to fit the HP goals of ones's setup...
If you are looking for 300whp or so.. get the 50trim.. If say 400whp..look at the 57 or 60trim.
I am curious to find someone else w/ a t04e/t3 w/ .63a/r on a D16 (trim can vary) and see what full boost is reach at that psi level they are running.
Hope this helps ya

midwestrider,
Thanks a lot! that really helped me understand some of the basics of the numbers...
I'll keep on doing some more research, but if anyone else has any opinions/ideas, by all means let them be heard!
thanks guys

FYI... A 50 trim can support over 400hp.

Re: D16 guys and other turbo experts. Help finalize my selection! (Bryson)
T3 super 60 sized turbo. Made by Turbonetics. I would reccomend staying away from Turbonetics but would look at this turbo size. A hybrid is going to be as laggy as you are looking for, but will not produce the hp/tq curve the engine will tend to produce.
Manifold design and runner size will help decide what turbo/trim to go with. I would go with a bigger exhaust runner manifold and a smaller turbo.
I have direct experience with this.
Good luck

Re: D16 guys and other turbo experts. Help finalize my selection! (lbz34)
t3/super60? Can you go into more detail why i should go with this? Isn't it "bigger" than the SC44 that i may be looking at? (60 trim compressor, .48 A/R turbine)
Some guy in some other D16 thread said specifically not to go with a t3/super60 because it'd be too much for the size of the engine...
Also, thanks for those links guys. They helped out alot too!

No no, the T3 Super 60 would work fine on a D16. I use the T3 60 trim, which is just slightly different than the Super 60. Obviously they have not worked with the Super 60 compressor maps, otherwise they would know better than to tell you that.
