D16 ARP headstud/head lift question
Alright so I finally got my block assembled and in the car with the turbo kit on (not seeing any boost due to removed wastegate spring)and its running great. Once I put the wastegate spring back in once I get it tuned Im worried the head will start to lift. I dont want to drive it around untuned and boosting to put that stress on the bolts and blow a head gasket just to re-torque them. Should I see any problem with the head lifting once I get it tuned? The studs are torque'd at 65lbs. Im thinking get it tuned on the dyno (only to 12lbs of boost) and drive it home, staying out of boost, and re-torque the head studs. Once again this is a d16y8. What do you guys think.

re-torqueing was back in the old days mostly V-8 stuff. the gaskets were paper and you needed to toqque them 3-5 times in order to get them mashed enough to stay sealed all the time no mater what.
You should be perfectly fine with the head not lifting.
you need to make sure you get the car tuned before you melt the motor down. you should NOT be driving an untuned car around as it's just asking for a ruined motor.

you can always check before the dyno that the arp's are still torqued properlly.
In my case, i didn't have the headlift until a year later after my dyno session... so I'm assuming my sleeves walked too much and caused my hg to go

Reading pwns j00. Just driving it to my tuner with out the wastegate spring in so the car won't see boost. I'll be putting the spring in right before it hits the dyno.
Thanks for the inpuy about the h/g everyone.

ive read that you should retorque them after a heat cycle. so let the car run until normal operating temp, then retorque the head. you should be fine.
btw, why do you have to take out the wastegate spring?? no self-control?

it wont hurt to check them. but they shouldnt need re-torqued.
i would not drive your car hard without a wastegate spring. overspoolin the turbo is not a good thing
platinum.

Isn't that the point of removing the spring? To keep the wastegate port open and let the exhaust gas go out freely so that you don't overspool the turbo?
