Default d-series turbo, How much hp?

heres the deal: I have a 93 civic hatch back. I swapped in a sohc vtec ( wasn't an si) and now want to turbo it. If I sleeve and go all out on a sohc vtec what is the most hp I can expect to get? I am looking to stay around the 400 range,am I dreaming with a sohc and how stupid would I be doing all this work on it?

400whp? Those are some lofty goals!

I'm not going to say that it's *impossible*. But it will definitely be difficult.

300whp is do-able (and done before). Anything more and you'll need deeper pockets. :D

Blah,

Its very possible you guys.

I'm going for 350-400+hp as well.
My spare block will be sleeved with my CP pistons/Pauter Rods (soon, just sold my Eagle's)/ARP headstuds/ACL bearings/Hondata S200B etc...
Just Go with a nice 60trim T3/T04e Turbo, big injectors, and big boost.

I think BoostedHybrid is shooting for some big numbers as well

SOHC's own,,,they're a dime a dozen if you blow something, unlike the B series.
Goodluck if you are serious about it.

400whp is easily obtainable. You have to plan out exactly what you want out of your engine to create the power level you are after. I am shooting for over 300whp on pump gas, which I think will easily be obtainable. I'll know within three weeks. I personally love the fact that the parts are cheap, easily sourced and can make big power if the envelope is pushed enough. Also the aftermarket is starting to support the d-series more. My girlfriend has around 5K in her set-up, but she is still 3-4K cheaper than building a b-series. Compariably I have around 8K in my b-series set-up.

Not SLEEVED SOHC's.

BTW, how much was sleeving for your D? I might just drop this whole B-series hunt and buildup what I have now.

Well no doubt

Most sleeving goes from about $750-1000+. Thats not including the installation of pistons/rods/bearings/headstuds/etc..

CivicRyda2k, The only reason I sold my eagles, is because i bought them used. I finally realized that it wasnt worth the risk to put them in my soon to be sleeved block. Mainly because i DONT know what these rods really went through. So why cheap out on rods, when i haven't cheaped out on anything else, ya know?
I may buy some new Eagles, but only if i get the upgraded rod bolts

To civicryda2k and boostedhybrid, which turbo do you plan on running in your setup?

I'm still unsure if i should go with the 57 or 60 trim, .48 A/R exhaust, .63 A/R intake.

Bigger is better.

How about those Precision turbos that everyone's raving about? What's a good size for our little SOHC wonder blocks?

SC57 should be good for low 300's with a little lag. Anything more than that on the D-series from precision and you'll probably want to look into the the SC34 but the lag/hp trade off will deffinently be more noticeable. Working on a new setup and still debating if I want to go Precision or not.

I have a friend that has a 97 ex with the d16y8 turboed with a T3/T4 and fmic. FMAX Kit. and on the dyno she hit 235hp to the wheels. She is fmaxturbochic and yes she is on this site too. All she did to hte block was a block guard, and head gasket. So go kill some dohc's, but be carefull of the mighty eclipse gs-x

Hey Spiderman whats up I have not heard from you in a while,, Let me give them some spidey sense. I think your kidding about how hard it is to make a d16y8 have 400 right! Dude Our Dual Purpose car(fmaxturbochics) which is ours I am married(but thats not important right now) is already putting out 220 hp with horrible tuning. With good tuning and a good exhaust its a 2/ 1/4 now should be about 240-250HP on 14 psi on a stock bottom end, so figure at least double that on a built motor and 20+psi of race gas.. Just thought I give you some backup on that...........
