cylinder walls...need new hone?
well, was looking at some threads yesterday and came upon some cylinder wall topics. So after reading, I decided to go take a look at mine. What do you guys think of this....the block has been sitting for 3 1/2 years...maybe more. I bought it from a buddy, who bought it but never installed it. I finally took it off his hands a couple of days ago. He said the guys who had it before him said the block has less then 800 miles, plus it was boosted...ls-vtec turbo, and the block is sleeved. Well, here's the pics...

if the motor is not in the car yet. i would hone the block, but it looks fine. you should check all clearance on the block over, since the block was built a few years ago.

I'd take it apart, check the clearances, get it honed, then re-assemble it.

IF you use a dingle berry to clean up the walls you can stick w/your stock pistons & rings...BUT if you bore it .5 over you will need to get a new set of pistons/rings.

wouldn't you want to use new rings, even if its just a new hone? But for the bearings and stuff...could they just be used or does it have to be new too?

yeah you should use new rings if you overbore or not. try a hone first and see how it cleans up. that last cyl looks kinda rough for just a hone to fix, might have to go .020 over...
