Default Cylinder Leak down Tester Kits

Where do you guys recommend purchasing one at? No, I do not want a compression tester.

Thanks

Yes, quality is never cheap. But sometimes I am. Does anyone else have any 411 on the kits?

Are their leakdown testers just as good and accurate as other brands?

im no expert but ide say for the average garage it would be fine...only way i would spend the money for a snap-on or similar is if i had a shop or used the tester very frequently

I use the tavia tester that summit sells. I have no problems with it. It's great. There's just a difference in gauges so I add 2 psi to get my leak percent.

You can build your own if you are so inclined:

Got one off ebay. Paid only 50 bucks plus shippings. Nice quality with 2 oil-filled gauges. I was very satisfied and it was very accurate.

I use the Summit one. That Snap On one is BS.. $295 for the same friggin thing, get out of town. However the Snap On one does come with a nice pretty case lol. Actually unless you really care about % compression lost you dont even need the tester.

If your just looking for where compression loss is occuring (ie testing valve seal, rings, or headgasket) you just need a compressed air source, and a hose with a spark plug adapter to screw into the spark plug sockets (comes with leakdown and compression testers). In cases like that % loss is irrelevant, you just want to see/hear where the air is escaping.
