CTR Cams, boost, and overlap? Dialing it out via cam gears?

I have CTR cams (in/ex) and the power in vtec just isnt that great. Im running a t3/t4 hybrid which is .63ar and .57trim. It isnt a huge turbo and i was thinking maybe the overlap on the exhaust cam is holding back power in vtec? I did some reading and read something like alot of people prefer +2 on the intake and -1 on the exhaust when using these cams to compensate for the increases overlap?

Does this make any sense? I want to try these setting but i dunno how it will effect my tune and i dont want to adjust things too far one way or the other. I read it was either +2in/-1ex or -2in/+1ex i forget, which would make more sense?

different setups react differently to cam adjustments... you have to find out where your setup makes power on the dyno and not by going off of what others have theirs set at...

goodluck

I'm sure he knows you can adjust it even more to best suit his set up. This is just a mild adjustment to reduce valve overlap. I have seen people go as much as 4 degrees retard on the exhaust and zero on the intake for there best setup.

Anyways goodluck and let us know how it goes.

just giving him safe opinions... i wish i had cam gears to dial out. i made 530whp400tq on stock cam gears on ctr cams

turbotime 07-06-2006 10:03 AM

yeah power feels a lil weak in vtec and i heard ppl had good results using the +2/-1 adjustment... I know the dyno is the best way but i just was gonna tweak it and see if i can feel a diff in the butt dyno
