crower or pauter rods for my d16y8
do yall think going with pauter over crower is worth it consider im only boosting a d series motor.. i know pauter are used in 700+ motors and the most ill porb put out ever is 300 mayber. they are around the same price though.

The pauters are better rods, can support like 700+ hp. The crowers are still good for over 650+hp though. The chances of you hitting either of those numbers on a d16 are unlikely.
I picked crower for my d16 (and again for my dohc ZC) for the fact that they are a little cheaper, and i dont have to knotch the block to use the rods. The pauters are like eagles - you gotta knotch the block on a d16 to use them.

Id go with Eagles..WHY?.
1. YOu have a D series.
2.I dont think you will have more than 500whp on the D series(if ur gal is more than that good luck to you..unless u want a race track)--->Eagles are for up to 600whp so that means theyre more than enough. You'll probably see at the most 350whp @ 20+PSI so thats basically half of the abuse Eagles hold
3. Eagles go for 300 bucks. Pauter and Crower rods go for 500+
4. With any of those rods u will most likelly have to notch the block(due to the 75mm bore) to prevent them from hitting the sleeves.SO..if eagle will hold why not then get them that are cheaper and u save lots of cash to do a good Block build up?(notching,honing..etc..)
Just my thoughts..

I agree with ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
But if it is between tghe 2 which is what you asked, I like the Pauters. But at a $675 price tag, you could buy rods and pistons if you got the eagles!

Re: (DroppedGSR)
about the eagles Larry from Endyn said that they're not much of an issue on the D-series because of a number of different factors (can't remember them all now). But that's why I kept my Eagles

You dont have to notch with crowers, thats what im running in my z6. Probably overkill like everyone else said but if you can find a cheap slightly used set you will save the trouble of notching.

Re: (Hella_JDM)
I'm going with benson sleeves also... I have to send my block out by next week before my wedding, so that way the block can be done while on my honey moon
as for the rods... I see people talk about how much stress rods can handle, but no one talks about for how long... I say go with the best you can afford, I'm sure rods that can handle 700+hp will last longer at 300hp then rods that can handle 600hp...
why do you think stock rods can handle around 300whp? not because they are designed for that much power, but because they can handle 130hp for 300k+ miles...
my point being, I don't think there is such a thing as overkill when it comes to internals...

Re: (turbosi03)
i got crowers for my sohc, it runs fine, i like them and yes they are strong, people over build their cars too often, find your goal and spend the necessary money to get there. i got made love for every bodies build ups but i hate to see those "benson sleeves, pauter rods, je pistons..." and they make 370 on the dyno...build it to meet your goals, not on the slim possibility of it ending up as a full race car.

well see thats what I'm getting at... I only notice people with hp goals... I know that when people go through all this work to get a setup running, they want it to last. especially the daily driven guy who makes 370whp or less even... why not spend as much as you can afford on parts you hope to never see again (once in the block)?
is it rediculous to think that maybe these people build motors that can take 500+ hp beatings and only put down 300whp, in efforts to be able to enjoy their car with double the stock hp for 100k miles (at least try to make it that long)?
I have seen posts on here of people asking how long setups lasted along with hp and other info... a bunch of people have said they ran boosted for under 10k mi, only one or two people have lasted 20k mi or more... I know tunning and install are the main factors in this, but I also think it's because people want to push the limits of their setup...
on top of all this, you know damn well there's no "slim possibility" of turning up the boost once you drive your machine on the street... not with the boost addicts around here anyway

well considering the bottom end going bad is the worst and most common problem , id worry plenty about it . 100 dollar headstuds can hold the head on . but throwing 300 dollar rods through 900 dollar sleeves.....no thanks
