Damn, sorry I didn't see this getting bumped. Yeah, the ignition is still running great. I didn't use a heat sink on the ZTX transistor either, and I have driven to and from Charleston [about a 5 hour continuous ride each way] with this setup.

I love it...no complaints, only compliments.

I did blow my motor though, so the car will be out of comission for a while.

I'll be more than happy to help anyone out with any problems they might have with this setup.

If you look up a few posts, I modified the schematic to make it a little more understandable.

Maybe add a touch more info:

For the Yel/Grn wire:

98-99 Teg and 96-98 Civic - A20
00-01 Teg and 99-00 Civic - B13
92-95 Civic (and I'd guess 94-97 Teg but I don't have their Helms) - A21

Eek, should be A21...my setup is on a 92 Civic. I'll change/add that.

Here are pictures of all of it installed, please excuse the pollen...georgia in april is horrible:

Blue wire here from distributor goes to the tach output on the msd box. Yel/Blk from the distributor goes to the +12V on the trigger circuit and to the +12V wire on the MSD box.

Here is everything mounted. I put everything in the location where the SRS computer goes...since I don't have any of the SRS stuff in my car anymore.

This is the original location on the distributor plug for the trigger wire.

I depinned that wire and put a blank plug in place as seen below. For the wire that runs to the trigger circuit, I just ran a wire from pin A21 on the ECU.

Did you find what you needed? I don't know the part # for the prototype board...I just grabbed one off the shelf.

I do have a ZTX857 if you need one...or you can order one from DigiKey.

The only update I would give is to NOT use a heat sink and thermal compound on the transistors. I tried this on the last one I built for someone and it didn't work because the compound shorted out the leads on the transistor. I have run my setup for extended drives (5 straight hours) and checked the temperature on the transistors and they weren't even hot, so a heat sink isn't even really necessary.

Good luck with the build!

I agree with about all of the above.. Also, ive had a distributor cap crack, and do THE EXACT SAME THING... **** I thought it was akll kinds a ****, my buddy took a look at the cap and that ended being the cheap easy fix. It bucked, and popped, and wouldnt start...all kinds of crazy ****...almost thought the t belt jumped or some ****.

Good luck

Firstly sorry guys to bump an old thread but I suspect my ignitor is gone bad and I want to do this mod so I am hoping Dax or someone who knows will comment - my question is, can I use this mod with my MSD SCI-L box and Blaster SS Coil or does it HAVE to be a MSD 6A?
